The Thursday Murder Club Deleted Scene Released By Netflix

Joseph Marcell, Celia Imrie and Helen Mirren in The Thursday Murder ClubIf you’re one of the many fans who helped send The Thursday Murder Club to the top of Netflix’s most-watched rankings in the days after its release, you’ll be excited to hear that a new deleted scene has just been released that’s practically a short film in itself. The movie adaptation of Richard Osman’s best-selling mystery novel arrived on the streamer back in August, and received generally positive reviews, thanks in large part to its impressive cast, led by Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie. But if the film has already left you with a hankering for a sequel – which director Chris and Dame Helen have actually both addressed speculation about during recent interviews – Netflix has just dropped a new deleted scene that should keep you going until there’s any more news on the franchise’s future. As explained by Netflix’s companion site Tudum, the sequence depicts one particular story thread from the novel that didn’t make it into the finished film.In the eight-and-a-half-minute scene, dubbed The Priest Who Wasn’t A Priest, officer Donna De Freitas (played by Naomi Ackie) breaks through a major part of the case, and we’re also introduced to her on-screen mum, played by Ted Lasso star Sarah Niles.Later, we find out what secrets local priest Father Mackie – played by (yes, really!) The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air star Joseph Marcell – is keeping from the amateur sleuths. The deleted scene has been released to celebrate The Thursday Murder Club’s success, with Richard telling Tudum that “the brilliant Chris Columbus wanted to share a scene that didn’t make it into the final cut, but one he really loved. This is for all you Father Mackie fans out there!” You can watch the scene in full here.Richard Osman on the set of The Thursday Murder Club with Sir Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan, Dame Helen Mirren and Celia ImrieSpeaking to Digital Spy, director Chris elaborated on why he had to remove one scene that Sarah featured in, because he feared it would give audiences the wrong impression about Daniel Mays’ character DCI Chris Hudson, who is Donna’s co-worker.“In the montage at the end of the film – I don’t think I’m spoiling anything – you see various cuts of the Thursday Murder Club and there was a scene shot of Chris Hudson arriving at Donna’s door and meeting her mother for the first time,” he explained.“I actually had to cut the scene because the audience who saw the film thought that Chris was actually meeting Donna and taking her on a date,” the Harry Potter director continued. “It stopped them for a moment and I thought I don’t want the audience to feel that anything creepy is going on.”He also explained that there’s potential to explore Donna’s mum further in a potential sequel to reflect her storyline in the books.Earlier this week, The Thursday Murder Club was finally dethroned on Netflix by Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, an original Netflix documentary.READ MORE:Thought The Stars Of The Thursday Murder Club Looked Familiar?
