'This Bulls**t Has To Stop!': Top Democrat Takes On Young Republicans Over Vile Texts
New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Tuesday ripped a reporter for asking if a Politico report on racist, antisemitic rhetoric in a Young Republicans group chat reflected “some bad apples” or whether there’s “toxicity” in the entire Republican Party.“Some bad apples? These are the future of the Republican Party,” replied the top Democrat during a press conference.“This is so vile it’s hard to find the words to put into context that these are people who are part of a political party — one of two major parties — and they believe in gas chambers and rape and discrimination based on the colour of people’s skin. These are racist, sexist, disgusting remarks.”Hochul’s comments arrived just hours after Politico reported that leaders of Young Republicans groups shared texts via Telegram referring to Black people as monkeys and “the watermelon people,” referring to rape as “epic,” writing about putting political foes in gas chambers and praising Adolf Hitler. The reported messages — which saw members concerned that they’d be “cooked fr fr” if the texts ever leaked — included members from Young Republicans groups in New York, Kansas, Arizona and Vermont. The reported texts have led to Republican Representative Elise Stefanik and New York state Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt calling on those in the chat to step down.Since Politico’s inquiries on the chat, one chat member is no longer employed at their job while another had a job offer taken away from them.Later in her press conference, Hochul stressed that the reported messages show “a whole lot of people” making remarks that are “so disgusting and so abhorrent” that everyone from President Donald Trump on down in the party should condemn them.“There’s got to be consequences. Kick ’em out of the party, take away their official roles, stop using them as campaign advisers. There needs to be consequences. This bullshit has to stop,” she said.Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?HOCHUL: Some bad apples?
