Travel Experts' 5 Best Cheap Holiday Destinations As Brits Skip Spain And Portugal
BeachAccording to aviation analysts Cirium, Brits appear to be skipping Spain and Portugal this holiday season in favour of North African locations like Morocco and Tunisia. Money, The Independent suggests, may be a motive, as the cost of living leads UK holidaymakers to seek out cheap holiday destinations. But where is best to enjoy a lower-cost jaunt abroad? We spoke to travel experts about their favourite locations: 1) The Black Sea coast of BulgariaMicheal Rozenbilt, who co-runs the responsible tourism company The World Was Here First with co-founder Maggie Turansky, says the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria is his top pick. “The southeastern European nation has a long coastline that has everything from large cities (like Varna and Burgas) to charming, old villages (such as Sozopol),” he told us.“There’s excellent tourism infrastructure, countless sprawling, sandy beaches, and plenty of sunshine to enjoy... and you won’t have to pay too much for a great room and a nice meal.” 2) The Albanian Riviera“You could look at the Albanian Riviera – it’s way cheaper than you think,” Stacie Vinson, a travel advisor, revealed. “Places like Himarë or Dhermi have proper beach town vibes. Himarë is quiet and cheap, and Dhermi is just like Santorini – probably the most expensive in Albania, but costs next to nothing in front of Greece or Italy.”She stated that it’s, “Easy to get to from Corfu too, just a short ferry and a taxi ride. Food is great and reasonable, seafood especially.”3) Montenegro “Montenegro is quickly becoming a favourite for those who are aware of it, Vukan Simic, CEO of recreational fishing charter company Fishing Booker, said.“Historic towns like Kotor and Budva, dramatic mountains that tumble into the sea, and beachside dinners that won’t drain your holiday budget are all things you can expect if you visit Montenegro.” His company, he added, has seen more and more UK holidaymakers choose Montenegro as a “laid-back, affordable alternative to pricier coastal destinations.”4) North MacedoniaThough Vinson admitted it can be hard to get a direct flight to the destination in the UK, she still maintained it’s worth it if you find one. “Ohrid has lakes and mountains and is very charming and cheap,” she wrote. “Locals are very welcoming, and they will even point you towards decent accommodations for as little as £30 a night! Villa Varosh is where I stayed with my husband, a lovely place indeed.” 5) Cluj, Romania “I did a trip to Romania last year – flew into Cluj from NYC, but flights could be a lot cheaper if you are in Luton or the rest of England,” Vinson continued. “The thing with Cluj is that you’re close to nature even if you’re in the middle of the city. And just 30 km away you will find Turda Salt Mine, which is now an amusement park.“Proved to be a very cheap and memorable trip for me!” Don’t mind me, just planning a little getaway (or five)...Related...I'm A Sexologist – Here's Why Sex Is So Much Better (And Wilder) On HolidayI'm A Travel Pro, These Are The Best Holiday Destinations To Take Kids And Teens (By Age)Labour Have Struck A Deal With The EU Which Could Massively Improve Your Holiday Experience
