Trump And Elon Musk Reignite Row As President Ponders Tesla CEO's Return To South Africa
President Donald Trump speaks during a news conference with Elon Musk in the Oval Office of the White House, May 30, 2025, in Washington.Donald Trump went on yet another rant about Elon Musk overnight, this time wondering what might send his former friend back to South Africa. The US president was almost inseparable from the tech mogul during the first few months of his second term, but they had an almighty bust-up over Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” in May.Musk, who had already been vocal about his opposition to Trump’s tariffs, left his role as head of DOGE (department of government efficiency) and the president’s right-hand man – and they exchanged insults on social media. The richest person in the world then unexpectedly revived their fight on Monday, writing on X that anyone who campaigned on cutting spending but then backed Trump’s “big beautiful bill” should “hang their heads in shame”.Musk, who pumped $250m into the president’s election campaign. added: “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”Trump then fired back, writing on TruthSocial: “Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate.“It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign.“Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one.”Trump then pointed to the Tesla boss’s country of origin, noting: “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE.“Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”It’s a far cry from the time Trump tried to flog one of Musk’s Teslas outside of the White House – a car the president has since threatened to sell.It appears the tech boss revived their row after the US Senate started to discuss Trump’s bill.Musk said the bill proved “we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY.”He added: “Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people.”Among his many claims against his former friend, Musk previously alleged the president had appeared in files related to the disgraced paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. He later deleted some of those posts and said he had “regret” over the claims because they had “gone too far”.Related...Old Pal Of Elon Musk Has Ominous Warning For Donald TrumpElon Musk Trashes 'Snake' Trump Aide Who Instigated Fallout With The PresidentElon Musk Admits 'Regrets' Over Astonishing Donald Trump Attacks
