Trump Tries To Give Putin Another Slap On The Wrist With New Deadline To End Ukraine War
Donald Trump and Vladimir PutinDonald Trump has just announced his plans to reduce the previous 50-day deadline he gave Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine war.Speaking from Scotland on Monday, the US president said he would now give Russia “10 or 12 days from today” to cease his brutal offensive or face secondary sanctions from the States. He previously gave Moscow until September 5 to pull out of Ukraine. The US president told the press: “I’m going to make a new deadline of about 10 or 12 days from today.”He later added: “I’ll announce it probably tonight or tomorrow, there’s no reason to wait. It would be sanctions and maybe tariffs, secondary tariffs.”But Trump, who has offered spoken of his friendship with Putin, added: “I don’t want to do that to Russia. I love the Russian people, they’re great people.”Trump also described the conflict as a “really bloody war” and says making a deal would be “common sense”.“I think that eventually something’s going to happen,” he added.“It should happen fast, so many people are dying.”In his joint press conference with prime minister Keir Starmer, Trump said: “We’ve had discussions, you [Starmer] and I have had discussions we thought we had that [war] settled numerous times.“And then president Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people in a nursing home or whatever.”Trump said he is “very disappointed” with Putin, adding “we’re going to have to look” at the deadline “because I think I already know” what will happen in 50 days’ time. The US president previously threatened “severe tariffs” of “about 100%” on Russia if there was not a deal to end the war in Ukraine within 50 days.“They’ve lost a million Russians,” Trump noted today, saying it’s a “disaster” what is happening in Ukraine.“Every time I think it’s going to end, he [Putin] kills people. I’m not so interested in talking any more,” Trump claimed.Trump also used the press conference to boast about his peace-making credentials, claiming: “If I wasn’t around you’d have six major wars.”But the Ukraine conflict has been something on a sticking point for Trump, considering he promised to resolve the war during his first 24 hours back in the White House. The Kremlin is yet to respond directly to the new deadline, although Russia’s top diplomat Sergei Lavrov seemed to allude to Trump’s criticism minutes later when speaking to the press himself.Lavrov boasted “we have a great many partners and like-minded allies,” amid “decades of fraternal friendly ties.”But the Russian stock market was quick to react to Trump’s statements, according to the Moscow Exchange, with indices plunging into the red within minutes of his remarks.Related...Trump Says He Disagrees With Israel's Claim There Is 'No Starvation' In GazaTrump Calls For Kamala Harris To Be Prosecuted, Again Alleging She Paid For Celebrity Endorsements'Total Mental Collapse': Trump Ripped After 'Insane' New Ramble In Europe
