Turns Out The Sex And The City Cast Had On-Set ‘Beef’ With This Iconic Show
Sex And The CityAs if Carrie Bradshaw didn’t have enough drama in her love life to contend with, the cast of Sex And The City apparently had tension with a whole other TV show while filming the series. The two iconic HBO shows may seem like a world away from one another, but SATC actually shared more than a few similarities with none other than The Sopranos. With the legendary mob drama and New York romance-comedy airing on the network at the same time, the two productions actually shared locations, studio space and even a director in Allen Coulter, who worked on both shows between 1999 and 2004.Speaking on the latest episode of Kristin Davis’ Are You A Charlotte? rewatch podcast, the SATC star was joined by the director as she recalled the two shows shooting at Silvercup Studios in Queens at the same time.“The different stages would have a common area of hallways,” the And Just Like That actor recalled, “and The Sopranos would have their craft services, which was like going to the best Italian restaurant that you could possibly imagine. And our craft services was really, really... not that.”She added: “No offence to anyone who made it. But we would just be like, ‘How can we get over there and get the food?’The actor went on to explain how food from the rival set became highly sought after. “And they would guard that food, do you know what I mean? They’d be like, ‘No. You can’t come over here.’ And we’d be like, ‘Please, can we have some meatballs?’ On hour 15, you’re really wanting the Sopranos meatballs, but you can’t have them.”Allen joked that he hadn’t realised “the mob was keeping you away from the food”.“They were prizing that food because it was good. It was really good,” Kristin added.Vincent Pastore attends "The Sopranos" 25th anniversaryWhile it sounds like things didn’t escalate beyond dining-related drama, the shows were actually quite similar in one food-related way, with the pair revealing that neither production used a “spit bucket”.The delightful term refers to the hidden prop used while shooting numerous takes of food scenes during movies and TV shows, so the actors don’t actually have to eat on camera the entire time.“We did, like, four takes and they would eat four meals,” Allen recalled of one occasion shooting The Sopranos.Kristen then revealed that it wasn’t too dissimilar to her cast’s approach, sharing: “I think it was because Michael [Patrick King], and I feel like also Darren [Star] really wanted us to eat and keep talking. So, like, we didn’t really have the opportunity to be like, ‘Okay, spit.’ You know?”While The Sopranos ended back in 2007, Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda are currently back on our screens in the third season of And Just Like That.Related...Sarah Jessica Parker Opens Up About Deleted Sex And The City Scene That Could Have Been A Game-Changer For CarrieKim Cattrall Initially Turned Down Sex And The City 4 Times For This Surprising Reason'I Always Hated That': Cynthia Nixon Says This Part Of Sex And The City Has 'Really Not Aged Well'
