Two Killed In 'Horrific' Terror Attack On Manchester Synagogue
Emergency service workers at the scene of a stabbing incident at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, in Crumpsall, Manchester, England, Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025.Two people have been killed while another four are seriously injured in hospital  following a “horrific” terror attack on a synagogue in Manchester.The attacker – who is yet to be named – was shot dead by armed officers at the scene.Police were called after the man drove his car into members of the public outside the Heaton Park synagogue, before attacking people with a knife. The terrifying incident took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in the Jewish calendar.Two people have also been arrested, and a knife has been pictured near the suspect’s body at the scene.A bomb disposal robot was also called in by the police amid fears the attacker had been wearing a suicide vest.Prime minister Keir Starmer flew back early from a summit of European leaders in Copenhagen to host an emergency meeting of the government’s Cobra committee.He confirmed that extra police officers had been deployed to synagogues across the country in the wake of the terror attack.Starmer wrote on X: “I’m appalled by the attack at a synagogue in Crumpsall.“The fact that this has taken place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more horrific.“My thoughts are with the loved ones of all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services and all the first responders.”He also told the media: “I’m already able to say that additional police assets are being deployed to synagogues across the country, and we will do everything to keep our Jewish community safe.”Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said: “This was a vile and disgusting attack on a synagogue in Manchester. On Yom Kippur – the holiest day of the Jewish year – families gathered in prayer were targets for violence.“My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected. I know many in our Jewish community will feel shaken. They deserve to know they are not alone.”Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said: “I am horrified and appalled by the attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. “My thoughts are with the victims, our brave emergency services and the entire Jewish community.” The mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham called it a “vile attack”.“We condemn whoever is responsible and will do everything within our power to keep people safe,” he wrote on social media. “We stand with GM’s Jewish community at this time and will work through the day to support them.”London mayor Sadiq Khan also expressed his horror at the event, adding: “I would like to reassure Londoners that the Met Police are stepping up patrols in Jewish communities and synagogues across London.”Reform UK’s Nigel Farage said he was “horrified” at the attack and thanked the emergency services, while the Greens’ Zack Polanski said: “I grew up and attended a synagogue in north Manchester.“So many of us are feeling the horrific scenes today that all come at a time of rising antisemitism. The Green Party stands with the Jewish community and everyone affected.”Meanwhile, King Charles issued a statement via Buckingham Palace, saying: “My wife and I have been deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the horrific attack in Manchester, especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community.“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this appalling incident and we greatly appreciate the swift actions of the emergency services.”
