UK Says Russian Troops Are 'Inept' At Handling Their Own Weapons After Latest 'Explosive' Incident

Russian President Vladimir Putin Russian troops have a “longstanding ineptitude” at handling their own weapons, according to the UK.The British Ministry of Defence noted that a Russian munitions arsenal approximately 80 kilometres east of Moscow “suffered multiple large explosive detonations” in April.Although Russia is at war with Ukraine, this was not due to an attack from Kyiv.According to the Russian ministry of defence, these explosions were “due to a fire which then caused a munition detonation”.The British officials claimed: “It is highly likely that poor weapons handling procedures alongside negligent storage of munitions resulted in this loss.“This is in keeping with longstanding trend of regularly evidenced Russian ineptitude with regards the safe and proper handling of its own munitions.”The MoD added that it “likely resulted in the largest loss of Russian munitions caused by Russia’s own actions in the current conflict so far”. More than one square kilometre of the depot – reported to hold approximately 105,00 tonnes of various munitions, including missiles and ammunition for frontline fighting – was damaged by detonations. The MoD said there were suggested “massive losses” at the facility. In addition, “fire-damaged, unstable unexploded munitions may have landed outside” the depot, which is “potentially posing danger to civilians in the vicinity”, the British officials said. The update comes as pressure on Vladimir Putin to attend Thursday’s in-person peace talks in Turkey grows. The Russian president has refused to confirm whether he will meet Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the first time since December 2019, despite suggesting the direct talks himself. The MoD has consistently reported difficulties within the Russian ranks, including soldiers’ issues with heavy drinking, poor discipline and low morale.Russia is reportedly approaching one million casualties in the Ukraine war, after 160,000 troops either killed or injured in the first four months of the year alone.Latest Defence Intelligence update on the situation in Ukraine - May 14 2025.Find out more about Defence Intelligence's use of language: https://t.co/r0r7GqjFbQ#StandWithUkraine 🇺🇦 pic.twitter.com/R39Zn4C821— Ministry of Defence 🇬🇧 (@DefenceHQ) May 14, 2025Related...Putin Minister Finds A New Culprit To Blame For Dragging Out Ukraine War – And It's Not RussiaRussian Politician Calls Zelenskyy's Latest Putin Request 'Pure Theatrics'Zelenskyy Says 'I Will Be Waiting For Putin In Turkey'
