'What's Changed?': Farage's Past Views On Nadine Dorries Leave Reform Chief Floundering
Naga Munchetty and Zia Yusuf on BBC Breakfast this morning.A senior Reform UK official was left floundering on live TV as he was reminded about what Nigel Farage used to say about his party’s latest recruit.Former Tory cabinet minister Nadine Dorries announced on Thursday night that she was joining Reform and declared that her old party “is dead”.But a tweet by Farage in 2022 condemning Dorries for defending then prime minister Boris Johnson quickly emerged. In it, he said: “I had the misfortune of watching and listening to Nadine Dorries this morning. If she is the PM’s defence then he really is a goner.”I had the misfortune of watching and listening to Nadine Dorries this morning. If she is the PM's defence then he really is a goner.— Nigel Farage MP (@Nigel_Farage) February 5, 2022On BBC Breakfast this morning, presenter Naga Munchetty grilled former Reform chairman Zia Yusuf on Farage’s apparent change of heart. She said: “Is Nigel Farage delighted that she’s joined Reform UK?Yusuf, who now heads up Reform’s version of Elon Musk’s cost-cutting “Doge” team, replied: “He absolutely is. I spoke to him last night. He was delighted.”But Munchetty pointed out: “In 2022 he spoke about seeing Nadine Dorries on television. Nadine Dorries was defending the then prime minister, Boris Johnson, and he said ‘I had the misfortune of watching and listening to Nadine Dorries this morning. If she is the PM’s defence then he really is a goner’. What’s changed?”Dodging the question, Dorries said: “Well, if you go and read what Nadine wrote in the Daily Mail yesterday, and if you listen to her interview, she is clear that the Tory Party is dead.”Munchetty interrupted Yusuf to say: “That wasn’t the implication of my question, I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear.“You’ve said that Nadine Dorries has said that the Tory Party is dead, but in the past Nigel Farage has been disparaging about Nadine Dorries, saying if the prime minister’s defence was her, then he’s a goner. “What’s changed in terms of his opinion of her as a politician.”Yusuf said: “This is party politics. She was part of the Conservative Party at the time.“What’s happened now is Nadine has laid into the Tory record and said the Tory Party is dead, and we agree with her.”The clash, which can be seen below, came as Reform members gather in Birmingham for the party’s annual conference.'In the past Nigel Farage has been disparaging about Nadine Dorries, what's changed?'On #BBCBreakfast Zia Yusuf was questioned about the decision by former Conservative minister Nadine Dorries to defect to Reform UKhttps://t.co/CXCrTC3jPWpic.twitter.com/ZbSxkrl9jR— BBC Breakfast (@BBCBreakfast) September 5, 2025Related...Nadine Dorries Has Joined Reform UK.
