With These New Changes To ABBA Voyage, The Show Has Somehow Improved On Perfection
ABBA Voyage has now been running for three yearsAfter keeping fans speculating for months – if not years! – ABBA Voyage finally unveiled new changes on Tuesday night, to commemorate its third anniversary. The unique concert experience first opened in London’s East End in May 2022, combining the hits of ABBA with state-of-the-art digital technology that sees the iconic group performing some of their most legendary hits (as well as select deep cuts and offerings from their chart-topping Voyage album) as digital versions of themselves. All four members of ABBA came together in the early 2020s to help create these stunning digital renderings (dubbed “ABBAtars”) using motion capture technology – and the results earned unanimous praise when ABBA Voyage first opened its doors.Back in March, it was revealed that, for the first time, the show was being updated to incorporate new additions to the setlist, which were finally revealed at a special concert that HuffPost UK was lucky enough to attend. So, here’s a quick guide to the new (and, we’re relieved to say, improved) ABBA Voyage. And be warned, there are spoilers ahead…Which songs have been added to the ABBA Voyage setlist?Björn, Agnetha, Frida and Benny in "ABBAtar" formWell, we’re thrilled to announce that the show now incorporates four new tracks, all of which are total bangers.Super Trouper now has a spot early on in the setlist (a baffling omission in the first place, given what the song is about, and how much lighting plays a part in what makes ABBA Voyage so impressive), while The Name Of The Game and Money Money Money are also performed.Although at Tuesday’s preview – also attended by pop royalty, with the arrival of ABBA’s own Benny Andersson and Frida Lyngstad causing quite a stir in the arena – we were treated to Super Trouper, it’s also been revealed that once the new version of the show is up and running, this track will be rotated with Take A Chance On Me, another new addition that was not included on the original setlist. What’s more, only one song has been axed from the set to make room for these new changes, with When All Is Said And Done being cut.Admittedly, When All Is Said And Done did have some pretty cool staging, and its lyrics about moving on from a difficult breakup felt especially poignant given ABBA’s own back story, and the fact they were able to eventually put their past behind them to reunite for the Voyage concert experience and its accompanying studio album. However, there’s no denying that it wasn’t exactly a fan favourite, so if something had to go to allow even more hits to make it into the setlist, we think the ABBA Voyage team made the right call. How do these new changes impact the ABBA Voyage show?ABBA Voyage is both a visual spectacular as well as a musical nostalgia tripAll four of the new songs are top-tier ABBA, featured in both their legendary hits collection ABBA Gold and the jukebox musical Mamma Mia!, so their inclusion should be music to the ears of any fan. We’re also very happy to say that they all fit into the show beautifully. Super Trouper got one of the biggest cheers of the night at Tuesday’s show, while Money Money Money introduces the show’s final act in suitably dramatic fashion. As for The Name Of The Game, it boasts some of the show’s most impressive staging and lighting, so even if the song itself doesn’t quite “go off” like a Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! or Dancing Queen, it still makes for one of the night’s most memorable moments. So, in short, this new version of ABBA Voyage has somehow improved on perfection. The concert – which is still selling out shows even three years after its opening – didn’t need to be changed, yet it’s all the better for it, packing in not just more ABBA hits, but also more spectacular visuals that make Voyage such an unforgettable experience. If you’re an ABBA fan, even a casual one, you must go. If you’re a fan of live music in general, you must go. Honestly – if you just have a passing interest in technology, you must go.ABBA Voyage is not just about the timeless music of the former Eurovision winners, nor is it just about watching their digital likenesses putting on a show. The whole thing – the music (including a house band), the stage, the “ABBAtars”, the lights, the arena itself – comes together in a completely unique way that you have to experience it for yourself to truly wrap your head around it.Fortunately for you, it’s now running until January 2026 at the earliest, and you can bag tickets here. What’s the new ABBA Voyage setlist? Here goes…The VisitorsHole In Your SoulSOSKnowing Me, Knowing YouChiquititaFernandoSuper Trouper / Take A Chance On MeMamma Mia!Does Your Mother KnowEagle (interlude)Lay All Your Love On MeSummer Night CityGimme!
