Spanish Government Used 2.389 Billion in EU Funds to Pay Civil Servants' Pensions, Accounting Court Warns
Spain's Tribunal de Cuentas has flagged that the government utilized approximately 2,389 million euros from the EU's Recovery and Resilience Mechanism to cover a portion of civil servant pension expenses in 2024. The fiscal court warned this recourse was driven by a lack of sufficient domestic credit in the prorogued budget and deemed the specific allocation for these payments as insufficiently justified.
