Turkey's KYK Scholarship and Loan 2026–27: Amounts, Results, Payment Dates
How much Turkey's KYK scholarship (burs) and student loan (öğrenim kredisi) pay in 2026–27, who qualifies, when results and payments are due, and how the loan is repaid, as of 26 October 2026.
Turkey's state support for university students, the KYK scholarship (burs) and student loan (öğrenim kredisi) run by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (GSB) through its Credit and Dormitories Directorate (KYGM), pays the same monthly amount whichever of the two a student receives. In 2026 that is 4,000 lira for associate and bachelor's students, 8,000 lira for master's students and 12,000 lira for doctoral students. Applications for the 2026–27 academic year ran on e-Devlet from 12 to 16 October 2026. As of 26 October 2026, the ministry had not announced when results would be published. The scholarship does not have to be paid back. The loan does, starting two years after the normal study period ends.
Key figures 2026–27 (as of 26 October 2026): Monthly amount, associate/bachelor's: 4,000 lira (was 3,000 lira in 2025) Monthly amount, master's: 8,000 lira (was 6,000) Monthly amount, doctorate: 12,000 lira (was 9,000) Increase: 33%, announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on 5 January 2026 Applications: 12 October to 16 October 2026, 23:59, via e-Devlet Students abroad: documents due by 31 October 2026 Results: not yet announced; in the 2025–26 round they came out in early November Monthly payment: between the 6th and 10th of each month, by the last digit of the T.C. ID number Repayment of the loan: monthly instalments from two years after the normal study period ends
How much is the KYK scholarship and loan in 2026–27?
The current amounts date from 5 January 2026. After the year's first Cabinet meeting, President Erdoğan said the 2025 figures of 3,000, 6,000 and 9,000 lira would rise by 33% to 4,000, 8,000 and 12,000 lira, as Habertürk and İstiklal reported. He also said about 1.518 million university students were receiving support, and that the previous year's payments totalled about 34 billion lira. According to Evrensel, these January amounts apply to the 2026–27 applications. Scholarship and loan holders receive the same sum at each level. As of 26 October 2026 no figure for 2027 had been announced. In 2026 the rise was announced in early January, but nothing official says the same timetable will apply in 2027.
Burs or kredi: what is the difference, and who qualifies?
Under KYGM's own FAQ, the scholarship goes to priority groups and the highest-ranked applicants, within the limits of the budget. All other eligible applicants are offered the loan, which must be repaid. A student cannot hold both at once. Applicants are ranked on economic, social and educational data checked against public records. The FAQ publishes no fixed income threshold. Priority groups include children of fallen service members and veterans, students with a disability rating of 40% or more, orphans, graduates of Darüşşafaka and of state child-protection care, national athletes, and the top 100 scorers in the YKS AYT exam. Second-education (evening) students can apply. Open and distance-learning students cannot. Keeping the scholarship depends on grades. After a preparatory year the student must pass to the next class. In other years the student needs a grade average of at least 2.00 out of 4, or 53.33 out of 100. A student who fails has the scholarship converted into a loan, and it does not switch back after the grades recover. Support is also cut for dropping out, expulsion, freezing registration, not registering for courses or giving false information. Both forms of support stop at the end of the normal length of the programme.
How to apply, when results come out, and when the money is paid
The 2026–27 round opened on Monday 12 October and closed on Friday 16 October at 23:59. Youth and Sports Minister Osman Aşkın Bak announced it. First-year students, continuing students and Turkish citizens studying abroad could apply. Applications use the education records shown in e-Devlet, and KYGM said any with wrong or missing education data would be invalid. It told students to have their university's student affairs office correct their records first. Students abroad, except those in Azerbaijan and the TRNC, must upload a Special Student Recognition Form (Özel Öğrenci Tanıma Fişi) to kredibursbelgeislem.gsb.gov.tr by 31 October. Results are published on e-Devlet. Successful applicants must then approve a commitment form (taahhütname) there, and without that approval no payment is made. Applicants aged 15 to 18 need a parent to approve first. In the 2025–26 round, the approval deadline was 9 November 2025.
As of 26 October 2026, neither the ministry nor KYGM had given a results date. CNN Türk (23 October) and Haberglobal (24 October) both reported that no date had been set. Haberglobal estimated early to mid-November, based on a verification period of about two to three weeks. CNN Türk noted that 2025–26 results came out on 4 November 2025. Under the FAQ, first-time recipients are paid from October of their starting year, so the first transfer covers several months in arrears. The press disagrees on how many: CNN Türk described two months, Haberglobal three. After that, payments arrive between the 6th and 10th of each month, depending on the last digit of the student's T.C. identity number.
How is the KYK loan repaid?
Repayment starts in the month two years after the normal study period ends, or two years after an earlier cut-off. It is paid in monthly instalments over as many months as the loan was received, and KYGM says the instalment count and amounts cannot be changed. Since a 2022 amendment published in the Official Gazette, the debt equals the amount lent, so it is not interest-bearing (NTV, 9 November 2022). Borrowers whom social security records show as not working can defer up to three times. The first year of deferral adds nothing. Each later year adds 10%, or the year's consumer price inflation (TÜFE) if that is lower. Instalments that fall during military service can be deferred at no extra cost. Late instalments draw a late-payment surcharge, and unpaid debt is passed to the tax office. Debt can be checked on kyk.gov.tr and paid only through Ziraat Bank or the Revenue Administration. On 8 October 2026 KYGM warned borrowers about callers posing as lawyers and demanding payment.
What happens next
The next dated step is 31 October 2026, the document deadline for applicants studying abroad. Results and the taahhütname approval window will follow on e-Devlet; the date is unannounced, and press estimates point to November. The first payments of the year follow once commitments are approved. A decision on 2027 amounts is the next figure to watch. Students living in KYK dormitories already pay more this year: Haberglobal reported on 1 September 2026 that the monthly fee rose about 23%, from 1,290 to 1,590 lira. Separately, the Directorate General of Foundations (VGM) is taking applications until 31 October 2026 for its own 4,000-lira monthly university scholarship, paid for eight months, Karar reported. This page will be updated when GSB publishes results and payment dates.
