Letters: Wales's Labour leader criticises Starmer. Why doesn't Sarwar follow suit?

APPARENTLY, tensions are simmering between Eluned Morgan and Labour MPs after the Welsh First Minister criticised them in a recent meeting for not doing enough to stand up for their constituents in Wales. It appears she was particularly unhappy with the UK government’s benefit cuts and the decision to scrap the winter fuel allowance.  These cuts have been widely unpopular across the country and have been difficult politically for Welsh Labour to defend against attacks from opposition parties.  Many Scots voters will be asking why Anas Sarwar is not following the example set by Ms Morgan.  When Sir Keir Starmer became Prime Minister the Scottish Labour leader said he would not hesitate to “hold him to account”.  People in Scotland are just as unhappy as those in Wales with the aforementioned cuts and feel massively let down by Labour’s insistence on retaining the Tories’ two-child benefit cap and failure to nationalise Grangemouth. (In the run-up to the 2024 general election Sarwar promised that if Labour won “they would step in to save the jobs” at the refinery). The Labour MP for Alloa and Grangemouth, Brian Leishman, said a few days ago: “I have called for the nationalisation of Grangemouth. It is wrong that my party in charge at Westminster refuses to even entertain the idea. It was rightly deemed good enough for Scunthorpe Steel. The same should hold good for Grangemouth oil.”. Over to you, Mr Sarwar.  Labour MPs across Scotland were elected on the promise of change.  Why have they delivered a series of cuts instead? Alan Woodcock,  Dundee.
