Mathieu van der Poel keeps lead on countbackMan arrested near finish after stabbing attempt Reigning champion Tadej Pogacar overtook race leader Mathieu van der Poel just before the line to win stage four of the Tour de France on Tuesday, and is now level at the top of the general classification. He was only denied the yellow jersey on countback, but at least could celebrate his 100th career win in professional cycling. The 174.2km ride from Amiens to Rouen came down to a sprint finish between the top three in the overall standings, with the Slovenian world champion getting the better of the Dutchman, with Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard coming in third. There are also local reports circulating that an individual was arrested near the finish of the stage at the Saint-Hilaire roundabout at around 3pm. He was said to be wielding a knife and attempted to stab one officer, who was uninjured owing to his protective vest, but reportedly injured another in the leg.More to follow … Continue reading...
