Billionaire Julia Koch and her family is buying a minority stake in the NFL's New York Giants at a valuation of around $10 billion, Bloomberg first reported and Axios confirmed with a source close to the situation.Why it matters: This would be the highest valuation ever fetched in an NFL team sale, easily topping the $6 billion that Josh Harris paid for control of the Washington Commanders in 2023.It also could be the highest valuation for any pro sports team, depending on if it actually eclipsed the $10 billion mark — which is what Mark Walter is paying to buy the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.Who's who: Julia Koch is the widow of former Koch Industries co-owner David Koch, and recently bought stakes in the NBA's Brooklyn Nets and WNBA's New York Liberty.The Giants will continue to be majority owned by the Mara and Tisch families.Look ahead: The new NFL season kicks off on Thursday, with the Giants playing on Sunday against the Commanders.
