New York Times ordered to pay $9.25M after losing defamation suit to former basketball player

A jury has awarded $9.25 million in damages to former Alabama basketball player Kai Spears, finding the New York Times defamed him by incorrectly reporting his presence at a fatal shooting. The Times had not lost a libel case in over 50 years.
