"Out of step": Influential DNC member Randi Weingarten resigns

Randi Weingarten, a longtime leader of a major U.S. labor union and influential Democratic National Committee member has resigned from the DNC, Politico first reported Sunday.Why it matters: The American Federation of Teachers union president backed former DNC vice chair David Hogg's push to primary older Democratic incumbents in Congress and made clear in a letter to DNC chair Ken Martin her strong disagreement with party leadership's direction.Hogg said last week he wouldn't run again to be a DNC vice chair after his and Malcolm Kenyatta's elections were both vacated following a vote that was based on a technical complaint.What they're saying: "While I am proud to be a Democrat, I appear to be out of step with the leadership you are forging," she said in the letter to Martin, who was elected DNC chair in February."I do not want to be the one who keeps questioning why we are not enlarging our tent and actively trying to engage more and more of our communities."Representatives for the DNC did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment on Sunday evening.Read the letter, obtained by Politico, in full via DocumentCloud:
