Police arrest man accused of road rage, threats against GOP Rep. Max Miller
The Capitol Police said Friday that a 36-year-old Ohio resident accused of threatening Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) and running the congressman off the road has been arrested. Why it matters: Miller, who is Jewish and pro-Israel, has alleged the incident was antisemitic in nature, saying the suspect displayed a Palestinian flag and shouted "death to Israel!"Capitol Police identified the suspect as Feras S. Hamdan and said he has been charged with Aggravated Menacing."The investigation is still unfolding," the department said in a statement, noting that the arrest came less than 24 hours after Miller filed his report. What happened: Miller said in a social media post Thursday that he was "run off the road in Rocky River, and the life of me and my family was threatened by a person who proceeded to show a Palestinian flag before taking off.""The deranged hatred in this country has gotten out of control," he said, adding that he filed a police report and knew the identity of the alleged assailant.Miller has said he plans to make the police report he filed public.Zoom out: The incident came during a period of heightened security fears among members of Congress following the shooting of two Minnesota state lawmakers and their spouses over the weekend.House Democratic leadership pointed to the road rage incident as evidence that there needs to be increased funding for members' security. The Capitol Police, in their statement Friday, called the speedy arrest "a prime example of the USCP's stance towards threats against our elected officials. We will continue to have a zero-tolerance policy."Editor's note: This story has been updated with additional reporting.
