Trump teases new list of "Democratic programs" being shut down will come Friday

President Trump said he will announce Friday the most "egregious socialist, semi-communist" Democratic programs being eliminated — and promised they won't reopen. Why it matters: The Trump administration is using the government shutdown as another opportunity to remake the bureaucracy, with thousands of federal workers being laid off last week.Those cuts come after the Trump administration already dismissed more than 200,000 employees earlier this year. What they're saying: "We're closing up programs ... that we wanted to close up or that we never wanted to happen," Trump said Tuesday. "We're not going to let them come back." Trump claimed the Democrats are "getting killed" during the shutdown.He has repeatedly said he will use the shutdown as an opportunity to target programs favored by Democrats.The most recent layoffs included agencies like the EPA, Department of Health and Human Services and Education Department.Democrat leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries' offices didn't immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.The White House deferred comment to the Office of Management and Budget. OMB did not respond by publication time.
