Apple's Launching A New Feature That'll Make Travelling Much Easier

In the September Apple product launch, the company announced that its AirPods will have a real-time translation feature. Apple’s product launches come and go so often that it can be hard to keep track of each new offering – but the latest one is something you actually may hold on to.The brand’s new Apple Live Translation feature, which will be available for AirPods Pro 3 on September 19, will allow people with these earbuds to get real-time translations of languages they don’t understand right in their ears. Apple announced the release at its Tuesday product launch ahead of the holiday season.In Apple’s promotional video for the product, a woman wearing the new AirPods goes to a flower shop where the cashier speaks Spanish.By pressing on the stems of her new AirPods, the woman activates Live Translation. The woman then hears the Spanish speaker’s explanation of a flower discount in English playing back through her AirPods.The iPhone then assists with the conversation by displaying the woman’s reply in Spanish text for the cashier to understand. This is the key detail, especially for Android users: you need to stay in Apple’s walled ecosystem to use this feature.Since Apple’s real-time translation is powered by Apple Intelligence, you also need to have at least an iPhone 15 Pro that is updated for iOS 26 in order to access Live Translation. The translation feature will also be available for AirPods Pro 2 and later models that have the latest software update. So far, the tool will launch with the ability to translate English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, but the company said it will expand to Italian, Japanese, Korean and “simplified” Chinese later this year. This kind of real-time translation can feel like science fiction, but there are other ways to get the same convenience even if you don’t have or want to buy an Apple device.The free Google Translate app, available for iOS and Android devices and capable of translating up to 249 languages, can also make yourself understood in a hurry. And if you have a Google Pixel 9 or later phone, you can access the device’s built-in live translations for text messages and menus.Apple is also not the first company to roll out earbuds with artificially intelligent real-time translations. Samsung also has this feature for its Galaxy Buds3 series. But if you already are an Apple user, this AirPods feature is one you don’t want to ignore. Sometimes, Apple features provide more aesthetics than functionality, but the ability to get an immediate translation in your ear can save you in a pinch with clients, colleagues and new friends across the world. Without needing to search the web for a phrase’s meaning or use another translation app, this feature provides efficient convenience.Making yourself understood to other people is the most basic way to get around while you travel.
