Ayo Edebiri Has An Interesting Response To Awards Debate Surrounding The Bear
Ayo EdebiriAyo Edebiri has insisted she’s staying out of one debate that continues to swirl around her show The Bear.Since it premiered in 2022, the restaurant-centric US series has become a huge hit with with critics, as well as an awards show favourite, with both Ayo and her co-star Jeremy Allen White becoming regular fixtures at the Golden Globes and Emmys. However, some have taken issue with the fact that The Bear continues to submit itself as a comedy rather than a drama, arguing that the show is taking away awards from other more traditional comedic shows that don’t always get the same acclaim as dramatic shows.During a fresh interview with Vanity Fair, Ayo was asked for her “feeling on the discourse”, to which she responded: “My feeling is that that is a question that is honestly above my pay grade.”“That’s a question for the studios,” she insisted. “We get asked a lot about it as actors and they don’t ask the producer, so that’s kind of my answer to that.”Ayo Edebiri as Syd in The BearElsewhere in the same interview, Ayo weighed in on another of the most popular debates surrounding The Bear, relating to fans who are still rooting for Syd and Carmy to get together after four seasons.Sticking to her previous take on the matter, the Big Mouth star said: “We’ve been saying [the same thing] since [season] one, but I don’t know if people are starting to believe us now.“I do think that like there’s something about seeing people where they’re really passionate or where they’re excelling at something, it can feel exciting and charged. It’s a hard thing to talk about because we never get it right.”She continued: “I don’t know, my job is to do the thing, and then how you interpret it is how you interpret it.“But I do think it’s professional, and I do think if anything were to happen, it would not be the show that we’re making. And I also think it would be so crazy. That man is crazy and that girl is a bad communicator! The restaurant would blow up in like three seconds if anything ever happened.”Ayo won her first Emmy for playing Syd in 2023, and is currently in the running for two awards at this year’s awards show, which is due to take place next month. In addition to her third acting nod, Ayo has also been recognised in the Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series category for her work behind the camera on season three.A fifth season of The Bear is already confirmed to be in the works, which we should expect to see on our screens next year.READ MORE:The Bear Season 4 Reminds Us Why We Fell In Love With The ShowHere's What Jeremy Allen White Actually Said During His Censored Emmys Acceptance SpeechThis Is Why The Bear Fans Can't Seem To Agree About That Supposed 'Continuity Error'
