Barbra Streisand Slams 'Ridiculous' Donald Trump Project As Metaphor For His Presidency

Entertainment legend Barbra Streisand has never been a fan of President Donald Trump, but in a series of frustrated social media posts on Wednesday, the iconic multi-hyphenate argued that his latest controversy encapsulates the legacy of his entire presidency.“Trump lied when he said he would not disturb the existing White House for his ridiculous ballroom,” Streisand wrote on Threads. “His destruction of the East Wing is symbolic of what he has done to our democracy.”In July, Trump announced the construction of a brand new ballroom with an estimated cost of $200 million (£150 million|) and claimed the project wouldn’t “interfere” with the White House proper. This week, the entire East Wing was nonetheless bulldozed to the ground, with Trump calling the sounds of demolishment “music to my ears”.He has also upped the cost of construction to $300 million (£225 million), telling NBC News last month that the ballroom will be “a little bigger” than initially planned – with a capacity of 900 people.Streisand also noted that Trump is moving forward with the project amid a government shutdown, which has entered its fourth week after a standoff between Democrats and Republicans over measures concerning health insurance for millions of Americans.“While the government is shut down, Donald Trump is destroying part of the East Wing of the White House, the people’s House, for his unwanted ballroom,” Streisand wrote Wednesday in a separate Threads post. “Who is paying for this atrocity?”A largely demolished part of the East Wing of the White House, as photographed Thursday.Streisand has openly criticised Trump throughout his time in office and encouraged her social media followers on Friday to attend the “No Kings” protests. The demonstrations drew millions of people to thousands of rallies across the country — to Trump’s chagrin. His ballroom project has ultimately become just as unpopular as his presidency: A recent YouGov America poll asking 2,038 U.S. adults about the demolition shows 53% “strongly or somewhat disapprove”. The Economist has Trump’s current net approval rating at 56%.Streisand wasn’t alone in arguing that the bulldozing perfectly captures his presidency, as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) shared an image of it on social media on Tuesday, and wrote: “This is Trump’s presidency in a single photo: Illegal, destructive, and not helping you.”READ MORE:Kenny Loggins Puts Donald Trump On Blast For Using His Song In That Sh**ty AI VideoRobert De Niro Drops A Royal F-Bomb On Trump’s ‘King Donald I’ DreamsIconic Actor Slams Trump For Trying To Turn Chicago Into ‘Fascist Hub’ In Explosive Message
