Black Mirror Fans Have Just Days Left To Watch Bandersnatch Before It's Removed From Netflix
Black Mirror's most unique episode will not be around for much longerSince its latest season premiered just under a month ago, Black Mirror has not budged from Netflix’s list of most-watched shows right now.But with the dystopian drama clearly still continuing to dominate the pop culture conversation, fans have just a few days left if they want to explore the franchise’s most groundbreaking episode to date.In December 2018, Black Mirror unveiled its first ever interactive episode, Bandersnatch. This one-off special allowed viewers to choose the outcome of the story at pretty much every turn, meaning every viewer had a different experience, with near-endless possibilities to explore.Asim Chaudhry, Will Poulter and Fionn Whitehead in Black Mirror: BandersnatchFionn Whitehead, Will Poulter, Asim Chaudhry and Alice Lowe all made appearances in the episode, which largely centred around a video game developer in the early 1980s who becomes obsessed with his work, with deadly consequences.Bandersnatch is still considered one of Black Mirror’s most impactful offerings – with Will Poulter and Asim Chaudhry even reprising their roles from the episode in season seven’s Plaything. However, if you want to revisit it, you’d better do it soon, as Bandersnatch – along with interactive specials of shows like The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and – will be removed from Netflix on Monday 12 May.It’s not yet clear whether Bandersnatch will ever return to the platform in a more traditional, linear form, or whether it is now gone from the service for good. What’s On Netflix pointed out that other interactive specials, including Ranveer vs. Wild With Bear Grylls and You vs. Wild were removed from Netflix in January.HuffPost UK has contacted Netflix for comment.Around Bandersnatch’s release, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker told HuffPost UK in 2019 that the special was deliberately engineered for repeat viewings.Charlie Brooker pictured at a Black Mirror screening last month“It’s been interesting that you get different reactions from different people, partly based on what they’re expecting, or what they want,” he said. “So some people go, ‘oh, I’m shit at this’, and you sort of go, ‘no no, it’s alright, we’ve built in that you’re going to fail’. We’re trying to make you fail a couple of times so that you have to go around and do things again, and that’s sort of baked into the story.”He added: “Equally, some people just want to be told one story, but this is designed where you’re going to experience more than one ending to get a sense of the whole.“We don’t expect you to do all of them, it’s just the more you do, hopefully the more fun an experience you’ll have.”Charlie also claimed that the distinct format allows viewers to explore “different ways of telling a story”.“Some of them are comic, some of them it’s a horror story, some of them it’s a weird fourth wall-breaking meta-fiction [where] he’s a guy who becomes aware that he’s being controlled by a thing, which is you, the viewer at home,” he explained. “That’s the central conceit.’So there’s not really a message there, there’s lots of, I hope, fun to be had, and there’s bits that are emotive and there’s bits that are sort of interesting, there’s bits that are tongue-in-cheek, there’s bits that are disturbing. So, it’s about the journey, rather than the destination.”“That sounds like the cuntiest thing I’ve ever said,” he then quipped. All seven seasons of Black Mirror are streaming on Netflix now.READ MORE:Fionn Whitehead On The Difficulties Of Making Bandersnatch – And The 1 Scene He's 'Annoyed' Was CutBlack Mirror Creators Charlie Brooker And Annabel Jones Take On Bandersnatch CriticsThought The Black Mirror Season 7 Cast Looked Familiar?
