Blow To Starmer As Labour Falls To Its Lowest Poll Rating Since The Corbyn Era
Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and current Labour leader, PM Keir StarmerLabour has plummeted to its lowest poll rating since Jeremy Corbyn was in charge of the party. In a major blow to prime minister Keir Starmer, Labour is now at 21% in YouGov’s latest poll on Westminster voting intentions, down one point since last week. The last time support for the party was so low was in October 2019, two months before Labour’s crushing defeat in that year’s general election.Corbyn, who had led the party since 2015, quit soon after and was replaced by Starmer.Relations between the pair broke down after Corbyn was suspended from the party over his response to a probe by the Equality and Human Rights Commission into anti-semitism in Labour.Although he was later re-admitted to the party, Starmer refused to give him the Labour whip back and Corbyn was re-elected to parliament as an independent MP last year. The YouGov poll is further confirmation of how Labour’s popularity has plummeted in the 10 months since Starmer won a landslide majority in the election.Reform UK are on 29%, giving them an eight point lead over Labour, with the Tories a further two points behind on 19%.The Lib Dems have fallen by two points down to 15%, while the Green Party is up by one point to 11% and the SNP continue to poll at 2%.Labour record their lowest poll rating since October 2019 in YouGov's latest Westminster voting intention, while Reform UK post their largest lead to dateRef: 29% (no change from 18-19 May)Lab: 21% (-1)Con: 19% (+3)Lib Dem: 15% (-2)Green: 11% (+1)SNP: 2% (=) pic.twitter.com/cPzFnTOHe0— YouGov (@YouGov) May 28, 2025Labour’s poll slump comes despite Starmer pledging to U-turn on the government’s deeply unpopular decision to axe winter fuel payments for 10 million pensioners.Ministers are now looking at also lifting the two-child benefit cap. Starmer himself is still polling well with voters compared to other party leaders, though – and much better than Nigel Farage.Compared directly to the Reform UK leader, the incumbent Labour PM had the support of 44% of respondents while the Reform UK leader secured 29%, according to YouGov.Related...Is Starmer Really Looking To Lift The Two-Child Benefit Cap?
