Bruce Springsteen Dials Up Anti-Trump Criticism With New Release

Bruce Springsteen on stage in 2016Bruce Springsteen is putting his takedowns of Donald Trump on the record.On Wednesday, the Boss dropped his latest EP, titled Land Of Hope & Dreams, a collection of live recordings including a live version of the project’s namesake, My City Of Ruins and twospeeches tearing apart the president that went viral during a stop on his tour in Manchester last week.The project also includes a live version of Springsteen’s cover of Bob Dylan’s Chimes Of Freedom, a song expressing solidarity with people marginalised by society that the Boss reportedly hadn’t played live since 1988.Last week, Springsteen began the latest leg of his tour with the E Street Band by bashing Trump, declaring that the US is “currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration”.He also referred to “very weird, strange and dangerous shit” happening in America before slamming the administration for “persecuting people for using their right to free speech and voicing their dissent.”Donald TrumpTrump proceeded to have a meltdown over Springsteen’s remarks on his Truth Social platform, calling the Boss “dumb as a rock” and a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker”.He went on to launch further attacks against the music legend, claiming without evidence that former vice president Kamala Harris had paid Springsteen and other celebrities to endorse her. On Wednesday, the president posted a bizarre, edited video of him hitting a golf ball that cuts to a clip of a “ball” hitting Springsteen (the latter footage is actually of the Boss falling on stage in 2023).Several musicians, along with the president of the American Federation of Musicians, have come to Springsteen’s defence in recent days, including Neil Young and Eddie Vedder.
