UPDATE: Right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk has died after being shot while speaking at Utah Valley University.President Donald Trump confirmed his death, announcing it on social media.“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote on TruthSocial. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation,” Patel wrote. Law enforcement tapes off an area after Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was shot at the Utah Valley University, Wednesday, Sept. 10.In video of the event online, it appears that Kirk is struck as he is speaking. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the shot rang out as Kirk was fielding a question about mass shootings in America. Students immediately began to flee and take cover. Reporters on the scene from Desert News told CNN it appeared Kirk had lost a lot of blood “immediately.” Details about the shooter were not immediately available. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox did not have an update about Kirk’s condition but said the governor’s office would continue to share information as it becomes available. The university closed the campus Wednesday afternoon and canceled classes until further notice.
