'Deeply Impulsive': Ex-Trump Official Spills On How White House Staffers Feel About President
An ex-Homeland Security official who notably wrote an “anonymous” op-ed against President Donald Trump’s first term has revealed that a number of White House staffers aren’t convinced the president is fit to serve in the Oval Office.Miles Taylor — part of the “resistance” against Trump 1.0 before joining 130-plus ex-GOP national security officials who ripped his ability to serve again — referred to unnamed friends laying “very, very low” in the White House who “share some of the same concerns” he had about the president during his first term.“The man is still the same man, but worse and emboldened,” he said as a guest on MeidasTouch Network’s “The Court of History” podcast on Monday. “Still deeply impulsive, but impulsive without checks and balances around him.”He added that those around the president aren’t “trying to talk him out of doing bad things” but instead are “demonstrating fealty at every turn to the leader” — resulting in a variety of poor decisions.Taylor also mentioned unnamed national security officials, including those who believe they can still keep their “hand on the wheel” in the administration.“I would prefer some of those people in the posts I’m thinking about than others who might replace them, but I think people of conscience in this administration know that they are an endangered species,” he said.Taylor is another one of Trump’s perceived foes who have become a target during the president’s second-term revenge tour. He became the focus of a Department of Justice investigation back in April after Trump, who ordered the probe, claimed Taylor’s conduct could be “properly characterized as treasonous” and “possibly violating the Espionage Act.”Taylor swiftly swatted down the president’s remarks on social media, writing that “dissent isn’t unlawful” and it “certainly isn’t treasonous.”On “The Court of History” podcast, Taylor noted that the White House has ousted officials with ties to him, including a senior trade official who attended his wedding.HuffPost reached out to the White House, which was not immediately available for comment.
