Ellen DeGeneres Finally Says Why She Settled In UK After US Election

Former talk show giant Ellen DeGeneres confirmed Sunday that she now lives in England because of President Donald Trump – but didn’t make the move permanent until he got elected, the BBC reported.In a rare public appearance since settling in the Cotswolds with wife Portia de Rossi, DeGeneres appeared onstage for an interview at the Everyman theatre in Cheltenham.Asked by host Richard Bacon if reports that she hightailed it across the Atlantic because of Trump were true, she replied, “Yes,” according to the BBC.DeGeneres explained she and de Rossi had originally intended their real estate purchase to be a “part-time house” and perhaps reside there up to four months a year.But politics changed their plans.“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in’,” she said, per the BBC. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.’”DeGeneres, who ended her daytime TV reign in 2022 after accusations that she fostered a hostile work environment, and de Rossi bought a farmhouse about a two-hour drive outside of London, People reported in November. Sources told some media outlets that the relocation was tied to President Donald Trump’s victory, although People reported that DeGeneres was house-hunting there before the election.DeGeneres has been joined in the expat ranks by another iconic talk show personality, Rosie O’Donnell.
