Glastonbury 2026: Why The Festival Won't Be Back Next Year

Glastonbury's iconic Pyramid Stage pictured during last year's eventIt’s fair to say that this year’s Glastonbury music festival, which took place in its usual location at Worthy Farm near Somerset over the weekend, has been dominating the conversation for the last few days.Whether it’s show-stopping performances, surprise guest appearances or headline-grabbing political statements, there was plenty to discuss at Glasto 2025 – so naturally you might already be looking ahead to what next year will have in store for us.And if that’s the case, it’s probably for the best that you hear it from us now that Glastonbury will not be taking place again until 2027.Indeed, next year Glastonbury will have one of its “fallow years”, allowing the land at Worthy Farm to recover, so it can continue to host hundreds of thousands of music fans – not to mention some of the world’s most A-list performers – year after year.Organiser Emily Eavis warned fans at the end of 2024’s event that the following year’s would be the last for a break, but assured fans it would be one to remember.“We’re taking a fallow year in 2026 to give the land a rest, and the festival before a fallow year is always a fun one to plan because you almost have to fit two years in one,” she claimed.Emily Eavis in 2022Glastonbury has taken place without a break in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, although the festival did have a two-year absence prior to that, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, before the event was cancelled, Taylor Swift was supposed to have headlined alongside Kendrick Lamar and Sir Paul McCartney, with Diana Ross booked in the Sunday afternoon “legends” slot. While Kendrick and Sir Paul both played the festival when it was finally able to return in 2022 (as did Diana Ross, for that matter), Taylor is still to make her Glasto debut at the time of writing.READ MORE:17 Must-See Moments From This Year's Glastonbury That You Might Have MissedBob Vylan Frontman Breaks Silence After Glastonbury Controversy Sparks Police InvestigationCharli XCX Fires Back At Glastonbury Performance Critics: 'Yawn'
