I Tried 'Walking Brighter' To Up My Step Count – I've Never Enjoyed Being Active More
Walking Brighter socks on the left: me walking on the rightWe hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, HuffPost UK may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI – prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.Good news: you don’t actually need to get 10,000 steps in a day (7,000 is good enough, experts suggest). But I’m not even hitting that figure often, as you’ll see. Part of it is because I’m getting my exercise in in other ways, but to be honest, I am ussually simply not all that excited to head outside. Well, enough, I recently decided. I figured I needed something to brighten up the activity – what better option than wearing some beautiful, colourful socks? After all, London Sock Co., an already-beloved favourite of mine, said their gorgeous, London-made options are perfect for “Walking Brighter,” making my least-beloved activity more appealing. It’s worked – and after speaking with certified personal trainer Mike Julom, I understand why.“Bright colours can change the way people feel about working out. I’ve had clients tell me they feel more ‘on’ when they wear something bold because they feel like they’ve committed to being active,” the trainer told me. That’s why I opted for one of London Sock Co’s colourful six-pair packs: picking my hue for the day genuinely did help me to get out of the door.“I’ve also seen people walk taller and push harder just because they liked how they looked in what they were wearing,” Julom continued. For me, something as simple as donning more beautiful socks than I usually wear helped me to pick the rest of my outfit more carefully, too, making walking more of a fun dress-up event than a chore. London Sock Co’s signature penny farthing motif alone got me more excited to leave the door; even opening the luxe gift box my pairs came in was satisfying. But that wasn’t the only appeal. The brand uses exceptionally small, tight stitches to ensure a soft and durable fabric, and fabrics include Scottish Lisle cotton, Merino wool, organic cotton, cashmere, lyocell, linen, and even some Egyptian cotton travel socks. That’d explain why I find mine so incredibly, toe-wigglingly comfortable. As a result, I really looked forward to wearing my socks, which in turn made me excited for my walk (a classic bit of conditioning). No wonder my step count had already risen from this time last week (I’ve been “colour pop walking” for a couple of days now).Of course, you don’t have to choose the options I went for: the brand makes boot, dress, sport, trainer, and ‘invisible’ socks, and they come in an enormous range of colours too.Whatever you choose, though, I have to agree with London Sock Co.’s claim – “Socks may be a little thing, but the right pair has the power to make a big difference,” their site reads.“Our mission is to inspire everyone to Walk Brighter, embracing that uplifting moment when pulling our socks up each and every morning.” Honestly, I’m still surprised by how well it worked for me, and given how giftable their stunning products are, I reckon I’m going to introduce it to my loved ones soon too. That’s if I don’t find myself subscribing to their Sock Club, which sees a new, exciting pair turn up at my door monthly, of course (surely I can get away with claiming it’s for my health, right?).Related...These Chic Fixtures Will Get Rid Of Your 'Freezing Or Boiling' Tap Water Dilemma In StyleLiam Gallagher’s '97 Jacket Is Back At Berghaus – And Yes, It’s Still As Iconic As EverIf Your Kid Loves Elf On The Shelf, This October Launch Should Be On Your Radar
