JD Vance Shoves Blame On George W Bush And Barack Obama Over Jeffrey Epstein Files
JD Vance, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.Vice President JD Vance took aim at former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush when asked about the late disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.Vance answered a reporter’s question about the Epstein files while he was speaking in Canton, Ohio, on Monday.“First of all, the president has been very clear. We’re not shielding anything,” Vance said. “The president has directed the attorney general to release all credible information and, frankly, to go and find additional credible information related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. He’s been incredibly transparent about that stuff, but some of that stuff takes time.”The Trump administration has faced scrutiny from MAGA supporters and others in recent weeks over its handling of the case.“You’ve got to assemble that stuff, you’ve got to compile that stuff, you’ve got to redact some victims’ names so that you protect the victims,” Vance continued.  He added that Attorney General Pam Bondi is “hard at work” fulfilling Trump’s recent request to release “whatever she thinks is credible” on Epstein.Trump made the request last week following the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s release of a two-page memo saying there was no evidence that Epstein had kept a “client list” or died of causes other than suicide in his jail cell in Manhattan in 2019, two points of public speculation.“The president has been very clear; he wants full transparency. He’s asked that from the attorney general, and I know because I talk to her all the time,” Vance said of Bondi. Vance then claimed that past presidential administrations had gone “easy” on Epstein and hadn’t “fully investigated the case,” specifically calling out Joe Biden, Obama and Bush.“For four years under Joe Biden’s Department of Justice, the media didn’t give a damn about the Epstein files or about the Epstein case,” he continued. “For literally 20 years, the story about this scumbag — and he is a scumbag pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein — he’s dead now. But for 20 years, you had Obama and George W. Bush’s Department of Justice go easy on this guy. They didn’t fully investigate the case.” Vance told the crowd that the media should “go after the administrations that went easy on Jeffrey Epstein.” “They didn’t show any curiosity about the case, and now Donald J. Trump is asking his Department of Justice to show full transparency, and somehow that’s a criticism of Donald J. Trump and not Barack Obama and George W. Bush,” Vance complained. “If you want to criticise the people who aren’t showing full transparency, you ought to go after the administrations that went easy on Jeffrey Epstein, the administrations that concealed this case for 20 years, and the administrations that failed to show full transparency.” Vance’s comments came after Trump deflected questions last week about the Epstein probe by accusing Obama of committing treasonous behaviour during the 2016 election. Obama’s office denied Trump’s “bizarre” claims, labelling the world leader’s attack as “a weak attempt at distraction.”While Bush was in office when Epstein was offered a plea deal in 2008, he has remained relatively quiet about the Epstein files. The plea deal allowed Epstein to skirt harsher federal penalties on allegations that he abused underage girls, and in return, Epstein pleaded guilty to Florida state charges.Wrapping up his comments, Vance insisted that Trump and his administration have “got nothing to hide.” “Donald J. Trump, I’m telling you, he’s got nothing to hide. His administration has got nothing to hide, and that’s why he’s been an advocate for full transparency in this case,” Vance added. Watch a clip from his speech below.
