Jeremy Corbyn Officially Launches New Political Party On The Left – With A Dig At Keir Starmer

Jeremy Corbyn has just launched a new political party on the left called “Your Party”.The former Labour leader issued a statement – also signed by former Labour MP Zarah Sultana – promising a “new kind of political party. One that belongs to you.”Corbyn has sat as an independent since his expulsion from Labour in 2024.Sultana lost the Labour whip last year but announced earlier this month she was quitting the party and that she would be co-leading the formation of this new party with Corbyn.In Thursday’s post on X, the MP for Islington North declared “the system is rigged” in the UK right now.He pointed to the 4.5 million children who live in poverty in the UK, criticising the “fortune” corporations are making from rising bills and the money he claims has been set aside for war but not for the poor.He added: “We cannot accept these injustices – and neither should you.”Calling for a wealth tax, he said: “We will only fix the crises in our society with a mass redistribution of wealth and power. That means taxing the very richest in our society.”Corbyn noted that he would champion an NHS free from privatisation and bring energy, water, rail and mail into public ownership – as well as standing up to fossil fuel giants.He reiterated his long-standing support for Gaza, too, saying: “We will keep demanding an end to all arms sales to Israel, and for the only path to peace: a free and independent Palestine.”He continued: “Our movement is made up of people of all faiths and none.“The great dividers want you to think that the problems in our society are caused by migrants or refugees. They’re not.“They are caused by an economic system that protects the interests of corporations and billionaires.”He also announced the party would be having an “inaugural conference” where the membership could “decide the party’s direction, the model of leadership and the policies that are needed to transform society”.Corbyn then seemed to add a subtle dig at Keir Starmer’s “Plan for Change” by concluding: “Real change is coming.”It's time for a new kind of political party - one that belongs to you.
