John Torode And Gregg Wallace May Have Left The BBC With A Very Practical MasterChef Dilemma

MasterChef with John Torode and Gregg WallaceJohn Torode has not had his contract renewed for the BBC hit show Masterchef. John was let go from his presenting position after an allegation that he used “extremely racist and offensive” language was upheld by an independent investigation by the law firm Lewis Silkin.John has denied the allegation, with a BBC spokesperson sharing that the former presenter “does not believe that it happened.” It comes after Gregg Wallace, John’s ex-co-host, also lost his position on the show after many of the 83 allegations made about his behaviour on MasterChef were upheld.He had previously announced he would be taking a leave of absence from the MasterChef franchise last year while the investigation into those allegations took place.John Torode and Gregg Wallace have co-hosted the UK version of the show for nearly two decades, which TV critic Scott Bryant notes on X could leave broadcaster BBC with a lot of work left to do this year.Chef John Torode in 2011“Appears BBC have to work out what to do with a whole series of MasterChef, a whole series of Celebrity MasterChef, and two Celebrity MasterChef Christmas specials,” which may have already been filmed with one or both members of the now-absent pair, the TV critic speculated.He claimed that Celebrity MasterChef and the MasterChef Christmas specials were hosted by just John Torode, and that MasterChef: The Professionals involved neither former host. BBC director Tim Davie had previously shared that Gregg Wallace’s absence from the show after the broadcaster had filmed an entire season with the ex-host left them with a “difficult decision and we need to weigh it up carefully.”He added, “chefs gave heart and soul...and we need to talk and consult with them and then make a call.” Speaking to The Independent on Monday, 14 July, a BBC spokesperson added: “At this stage we are not going to make a final decision on the broadcast of the series that was filmed last year.“We know this is disappointing for fans of the show and those who took part, and at the appropriate time Banijay UK will consult further with the amateur contestants.” HuffPost UK has reached out to the BBC to ask whether they’re planning to change any existing footage filmed with either John or Gregg, as well as whether they’re looking for hosts for upcoming seasons.
