Kemi Badenoch Claims Britain's Allies Have Trust Issues With Labour – Despite Having 'No Proof'
Kemi Badenoch speaking at Policy ExchangeKemi Badenoch has just made a rather remarkable claim that Britain is being “cut out” of international intelligence – even though she admitted to having no proof to back it up.The Tory leader told the Policy Exchange think tank on Monday that the Labour government is “not trusted by our allies” and therefore not privy to key information. It comes after Keir Starmer embarrassed himself last week by declaring he did not believe close ally Donald Trump had any plans to bomb Iran – only for the US to launch strikes against the country’s nuclear facilities on Saturday night.Business secretary Jonathan Reynolds said on Sunday that the US did warn the UK about the attack at some point before it took place. The leader of the opposition overlooked that detail, though.Badenoch said: “What worries me is that clearly, our government is not trusted by our allies.“Both the US and Israel have said so – not in quite so many words – and that is a very, very dangerous place to be, because it means they don’t know what is going on.”The Tory leader added: “We need to be very plugged in to what is happening with our allies and the rest of the world.”Asked if that means Britain is now being “cut out of intelligence,” she said: “I can’t prove it, but that is my suspicion from the comments the foreign secretary himself was making. From the bland, ‘let’s de-escalate, let’s de-escalate’ I don’t feel they know what is going on.”The Labour government is currently toeing a difficult line due to its ongoing alliances with the US and Israel. While Starmer and his ministers have repeatedly called for de-escalation in the region, they have refused to openly criticise the US’s strikes against Iran. There are also fears Britain could be dragged into the Middle East conflict if the US decides to use the Diego Garcia military air base it shares with the UK in the Chagos Islands.Still, it’s worth remembering Trump’s close relationship with Starmer, too.The president claimed just last week that the UK would be protected from further American tariffs on foreign imports “because I like them”.He told the press: “The relationship that we have is fantastic.”Related...Kemi Badenoch Slammed For 'Politicising' Grooming Gangs With Press ConferenceKemi Badenoch Accused Of Making A 'Liz Truss-Style Promise' With Latest Unfunded PolicyKemi Badenoch Squirms As Emma Barnett Asks For Any Tory Economic Policies In Car Crash Interview
