Kremlin Slams Trump Administration For Resuming Weapon Shipments To Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov Vladimir Putin’s government has attacked Donald Trump’s administration after announced it would be sending military equipment to Ukraine once more. The White House paused its regular shipments to Kyiv last week over fears that the US was facing its own shortages.Russia celebrated the news at the time, claiming the fewer weapons Ukraine’s allies provided, “the closer the end of the war”.But the US president told reporters on Monday that he would be sending “some more weapons” after all.Speaking after Russia stepped up its bombardments of Ukraine in recent days, he said: “We have to, they have to be able to defend themselves.“They’re getting hit very hard. Now they’re getting hit very hard. We’re going to have to send more weapons, defensive weapons, primarily, but they’re getting hit very, very hard.”Responding on Tuesday morning, the Kremlin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said this was all an attempt to continue “hostilities”.He added: “There has not been any final information that deliveries of [American weapons to Ukraine] have been stopped or halted, as multiple controversial statements have been made.”According to Russian state news agency TASS, he noted: “Obviously, there have been continued [weapons] shipments as the Europeans, too, have been taking an active part in pumping Ukraine with weapons.“These actions are hardly part of attempts to contribute to a peaceful settlement.“The policy being pursued by the Europeans certainly aims at continuing hostilities.”Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy also told ABC News last month that his forces had been counting on promised weapons from the US – including 20,000 anti-drone missiles which the US redirected to the Middle East. The US president promised to end the Ukraine war within 24 hours of returning to office earlier this year, but, six months later, the conflict rages on.Even when Trump suggested a truce on terms favourable to Putin – which would include Ukraine officially giving up its occupied territories – Russia continued to drag its feet. The US president also admitted that he does not think the Russian president “is looking to stop” the brutal war after their phone call on Thursday.Related...Former Russian Minister Found Dead In Car After Being Sacked By PutinCommand Of Russian Army 'Undermined' After 16 Of Putin's Generals Killed At War, UK SaysPutin Gives Up Any Pretence Of Wanting End To Ukraine War During Trump Phone Call
