More Than 1,000 Cubans Have Reportedly Been Tricked Into Fighting For Russia In Ukraine

In this photo taken on Oct.13, 2025 and provided by Ukraine's 24th Mechanized Brigade press service, smoke raises amid the ruins in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk.More than 1,000 Cubans have been tricked into fighting for Russia in the Ukraine war, it has been reported.The Kyiv Independent said Ukranian military intelligence (HUR) revealed that 96 of the foreign fighters had either been killed or gone missing in action.The reports back up an unclassified cable released by America which said that an “estimated 1,000 to 5,000 Cubans (are) fighting in Ukraine”.According to HUR, Cuban nationals are tricked into travelling to Russia by the promise of lucrative construction work advertised on Facebook, YouTube and TikTok.“After arriving in the Russian Federation, recruits are offered contracts for military service drawn up in Russian without translation instead of employment contracts,” HUR said.The Cuban nationals reportedly receive two weeks of military training in Moscow before being sent to fight on the front line.“The vast majority of them perform the functions of rifle and assault troops as part of infantry, motorized infantry, or assault companies,” the HUR said.Cuba’s Foreign Ministry last week denied that it was involved in the war, which began with Russia’s invasion of its neighbour in 2022, accusing America of making “false accusations”.In a statement, they said: “It is irrefutable that none of them have the encouragement, commitment, or consent of the Cuban state for their actions.”It has previously been confirmed that North Korea has provided troops to fight on Russia’s behalf in the war.American, South Korea and Ukrainian intelligence officials said Pyongyang deployed up to 12,000 troops to Russia last year.In April, Russian president Vladimir Putin said the North Korean troops stood “shoulder to shoulder with Russian fighters, defended our Motherland as their own.”The need for Russia to enlist foreign troops was emphasised earlier this week when the Ministry of Defence revealed that Moscow had suffered more than one million casualties since the start of the war.Related...Blow For Putin As Number Of Russian Casualties In Ukraine War Breaks Through The Million BarrierPutin Ally Makes Nuclear Threat After Donald Trump Hints US Could Give Ukraine Tomahawk MissilesJust 1 Move From Trump Could Force Putin To 'Sober Up', Ukraine's President Claims
