MP Warns David Lammy He Could End Up In The Hague Over Gaza ‘Inaction’
David Lammy and Kit MalthouseDavid Lammy has been warned he could “end up in The Hague” unless he takes more extreme action to condemn Israel’s war in Gaza.Conservative MP Kit Malthouse addressed the foreign secretary in the Commons on Monday after Lammy announced that he – and 25 of his international counterparts – were once again urging Israel to commit to a ceasefire now.The minister also called Israel’s new aid system in Gaza “a grotesque spectacle”, noting that almost 1,000 civilians have been killed since May just trying to access that relief.Lammy announced that the UK was putting aside an extra £40 million for humanitarian assistance in Gaza this year, while repeating the UK’s call for the Hamas hostages to be released and for a two-state solution to be realised. But Malthouse was deeply unimpressed by Lammy’s remarks. He said: “At a time when we have daily lynchings and expulsions on the West Bank, dozens being murdered as they beg for aid, er..... I’m just beyond words, really, at his inaction and frankly complicity at inaction at what is going on.”Malthouse said Lammy was aware of a “massive prison camp” being constructed in the south of Gaza, and that “leading genocide experts across the world are ringing alarm bells”.“Yet he has the temerity to show to this House, wave his cheque book as if it’s going to salve his conscience,” the former Tory minister said.“Can he not see that his inaction and frankly cowardice is making this country irrelevant?“Can he also not see the personal risk to him given our international obligations, that he may end up at The Hague because of his inaction?“And finally, really, frankly, an appeal to the Labour backbenchers: we can’t get your leadership to change their minds. Only you can, if you organise and insist on change.”“I understand the fury,” Lammy responded. “But I have to tell him that it demeans his argument when he personalises it in the way that he does.“It is unbecoming and not something the House expects, particularly of more senior members.”Malthouse’s intervention comes amid rising concerns over the 21-month war in Gaza.Tensions in the region reached new heights in October 2023 when the Hamas militants – based in Gaza – killed 1,200 people on Israeli soil and took a further 250 hostage.Israel declared war and imposed a blockade on the Palestinian territory. An estimated 61,200 people have been killed in Gaza since, according to the local, Hamas-run health ministry.Extraordinary scenes in the Commons tonight as Tory MP @kitmalthouse correctly accuses UK foreign secretary David Lammy of complicity in Israel’s crimes and warns him that he could end up in The Hague pic.twitter.com/blnxemWy6T— Nicholas Guyatt (@NicholasGuyatt) July 21, 2025Related...Germany's Broadcaster Responds To Reports They'll Leave Eurovision If Israel Is BannedIsraeli Soldiers 'Haunted By What They Have Done' In Gaza, UN Expert SaysIsrael Is Using Starvation To Commit Genocide In Gaza, New Amnesty Report Says
