Newsom Suggests MAGA Is ‘Putting America In Reverse,’ Says ‘Anti-Woke' Is ‘Anti-Black’
Gavin Newsom calls Trump's anti-DEI agendas anti-BlackCalifornia governor Gavin Newsom ripped into US president Donald Trump’s administration on Saturday, saying the MAGA agenda is “literally putting America in reverse.”“I can’t take what’s going on. I mean, no bullshit. I can’t take it. Every single day, every single hour, and it’s not even about Dems versus Republicans, it’s about this country and what we stand for,” Newsom said on All the Smoke podcast. The California governor told the hosts, former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, that America is reverting to a “pre-1960s world,” noting that the conservative-leaning Supreme Court could eviscerate the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which protects minority voters.California Gov. Gavin Newsom said that anti-DEI initiatives were "anti-Black."“That may likely happen in just a matter of months,” Newsom said.“I mean, they’re rewriting history, censoring historical facts,” he went on, calling it an “unbelievable” moment.“All this anti-woke stuff is just anti-Black, period, full stop. All the CRT, ESG, DEI stuff, that’s all this is. It’s this great purge, and it’s happening in real time.”Trump and his administration have aggressively pushed against DEI, or diversity, equity and inclusion, initiatives in the wake of his second term. The president has called such initiatives “dangerous, demeaning and immoral,” going so far as to blame DEI for airline crashes. Trump’s Justice Department advised against programs that assist women business owners. Last month, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth went on a vulgar discriminatory tiradeagainst DEI at a massive in-person gathering of military officials.Newsom reiterated it’s no longer “about Democrats or Republicans. It’s about who we are.”“I feel like, anytime you want to make it harder to vote, that means you can’t stand and win with your policy,” Barnes argued. “Anytime you want to make it tougher for people to have access to what our rights are, you can’t stand on what your policy is.”The California governor agreed, claiming that Trump “knows he’s losing” and “knows he’s unpopular in every single key category, and he’s going to lose the midterm elections,” which is why he aggressively demanded five Republican seats in Texas redistricting. Newsom told the hosts “we had a decision to make” before putting forward Proposition 50, which would initiate redistricting in California, counteracting efforts in Republican-led states to redraw congressional maps to benefit the Republican Party.“We can hold a candlelight vigil. We can talk about the way the world should be. I can write an op-ed and express concern about our country, or we can step up,” Newsom said. Watch the full episode of All the Smoke below.Related...Trump Slams Eyebrow-Raising Report About White House Ballroom As 'Fake News'Bill Maher Reveals What 'Bothers' Him About Trump's Ballroom — And It's ChillingTrump Reportedly Wants Name Of New Ballroom To Honour His Favourite Person In The World
