Nigel Farage Is Voters' Last Choice To Be Prime Minister, Poll Shows
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is Brits' last choice to be PM.Nigel Farage is the British public’s last choice to be prime minister out of the four main party leaders, a new survey shows. While Reform UK is galloping ahead in the opinion polls, it seems Farage himself still has some way to go to win over the electorate.According to YouGov, voters would rather Keir Starmer, Ed Davey and even Kemi Badenoch sit in No.10 than the Reform UK leader.Asked to rank party leaders according to who they think would be the best prime minister, voters put Starmer on top.Compared directly to Farage, the incumbent Labour PM had the support of 44% of respondents while the Reform UK leader secured 29%.That’s an eight-point improvement from the 36% voters gave to Starmer in February, when Farage was on 26%.When asked to choose between Davey and Farage for this month’s poll, 41% of the public supported the Liberal Democrat leader while 27% backed his Reform UK counterpart. When it came to a choice between Reform’s main opponents on the right, 29% said they would rather have Tory leader Badenoch at the helm than Farage (25%).That result is a particular blow for Farage, having repeatedly called himself the real “leader of the opposition” instead of Badenoch. Starmer was the most popular choice overall, beating both Badenoch (36% to 25%) and Davey (27% to 25%).The Lib Dem leader came in second place, beating Badenoch with 33% to 21%.YouGov’s head of data journalism Matthew Smith said: “While Reform UK present such a threat to the two main established parties that both would like to see it derailed before it gains any more momentum, an issue for Keir Starmer is that it may be to his advantage for the public to see the contest at the next election as being one between Reform and Labour.”He noted that Badenoch “does not have the same repellent force to left wing voters that Farage does”.He said: “Those currently intending to vote Lib Dem and Green are 17pts and 15pts respectively more likely to favour Starmer when his opponent is Farage rather than Badenoch, with a similar rate of increase among current Tory voters, as well as a nine-point increase among current Labour voters.”Keir Starmer holds a 15pt lead over Nigel Farage on who Britons think would be the best PMStarmer (44%) vs Farage (29%)Starmer (36%) vs Badenoch (25%)Starmer (27%) vs Davey (25%)Davey (41%) vs Farage (27%)Davey (33%) vs Badenoch (21%)Badenoch (29%) vs Farage (25%)Link… pic.twitter.com/a5zPmgUSLR— YouGov (@YouGov) May 27, 2025But Reform UK’s performance as a party in the opinion polls seems to be a completely different matter. A poll carried out by Survation for the True North public affairs agency in the aftermath of this month’s local elections found Reform would was on 30%.Labour were behind on 25%, the Tories on 18%, the Lib Dems on 13% and the Greens on 7%.If those results were reflected in the next election’s results, Reform would win 334 seats, Labour 180, the Lib Dems 58 and the Tories 23.For now, Reform UK has just five MPs, but it did win two mayoral contests, nearly 700 council seats and took control of 10 councils at the local elections.Related...Labour Attack 'Privately-Educated Stockbroker' Nigel Farage As War Of Words EruptsNigel Farage Dubbed 'Snake Oil Salesman' Over Reform UK's New Welfare PromisesStarmer's Jibe At Farage's PMQs Absence Is So Good, Even Reform UK MPs Were Laughing
