Pose Star Indya Moore Calls Out Show's Creator Ryan Murphy For 'Silence' On Transgender Issues

Pose Star Indya Moore Calls Out Show's Creator Ryan Murphy For 'Silence' On Transgender Issues
Indya Moore at the Venice Film Festival earlier this yearFormer Pose star Indya Moore has accused the show’s creator Ryan Murphy of being “silent” when it comes to the fight for equality for transgender people in the current political climate.Pose ran for three seasons between 2018 and 2021, and was lauded by critics during its run, winning a handful of Emmys and making history thanks to its predominantly-trans cast. However, one of its stars has now accused its executive producer of not doing enough to help the transgender community in the years since the show has been off the air.Reflecting on the threats facing trans community since Donald Trump returned to office in the US, a tearful Indya said in an Instagram video: “I want to express my thanks and my gratitude to all the people who have ever given us jobs, given us work, allowing us to be able to speak out.“But like, we really need y’all. We really, really need y’all.”They continued: “Like, the fact that Ryan Murphy has been this silent – like, we really pissed you off that much, Ryan? Like Ryan Murphy, who upset you that much?”(Left) Indya Moore as Angel Evangelista in Pose (right) Ryan Murphy at the Emmys in 2016“Janet really pissed you off that much?” Indya added, referring to Janet Mock, a Pose writer who called Ryan out directly during a now-infamous speech at the show’s season three premiere.Indya continued: “I can’t tell you how much I have been reprimanded in my work for standing up against mistreatment, either for me or it happened to somebody else.“And I’m trying to understand: how is it that you can do something like Pose during Donald Trump’s [first] administration, and then it’s like ‘poof, you’re gone’.“It’s garbage. It’s an embarrassment [...] Ryan Murphy, we need you to do more. You need to address the racism, the violence, and the targeting of people on your productions, Ryan Murphy. You do need to make sure trans people are paid equally.”Watch Indya Moore’s video for yourself on their Instagram here. HuffPost UK has contacted Ryan Murphy’s publicity team for comment.Indya put in a scene-stealing performance in all three seasons of Pose as Angel, a performer on New York’s ballroom scene who later pursues a career in modelling.Since then, they’ve also appeared in Netflix’s The Sandman as Wanda, played Karshon in DC Studios’ Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom and will share the screen with Cate Blanchett and Adam Driver later this year in the film Father Mother Sister Brother.Help and support: The Gender Trust supports anyone affected by gender identity | 01527 894 838Mermaids offers information, support, friendship and shared experiences for young people with gender identity issues | 0208 1234819LGBT Youth Scotland is the largest youth and community-based organisation for LGBT people in Scotland.
