Putin Dismisses Any Suggestion He Has 'Aggressive Plans' Across Europe
Russian President Vladimir Putin looks on at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, China, Tuesday, Sept 2, 2025.Vladimir Putin shrugged off reports that Russia is planning to make more aggressive moves across Europe, claiming it is simply “hysteria”.It comes as Germany and France have allegedly been upping their own defences out of fear of a clash with Russia in the near future.French hospitals have been ordered to make preparations for a possible “major engagement” by March 2026 on Monday, while Germany has said it is “on guard” for more drills from the Russian forces. It comes as Moscow prepares for joint military action with Belarus called “Zapad 2025” later this month.Russia was also accused of jamming the GPS of European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen’s plane over the weekend. But during a visit to China, Putin dismissed claims that Russia had plans to attack further within Europe.“As for ‘Russia’s aggressive plans with respect to Europe’, I want to emphasise once again that this is complete nonsense, which has absolutely no basis,” the Russian president said.“Any sane person is perfectly aware that in Russia there has never been, is not, and will never be any desire to attack anyone.”He also accused Europe of spreading “hysteria” and “horror stories” – but Putin has used by this playbook before.Days before he invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the Russian dictator played down concerns that his military drills were a sign of aggression, calling them “purely defensive” and “not a threat”. Putin repeated his claims that Russia has “never” objected to the prospect of Ukraine’s membership within the EU, only its attempts to join Nato.Suggesting Nato’s eastwards expansion was the root cause of the war he started, Putin added: “There are options for ensuring Ukraine’s security in the event of an end to the conflict. And it seems to me that there is an opportunity to find consensus here.”But Russia previously claimed its illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014 was driven by Ukraine’s supposed pro-EU shift. Many now see that land grab as the real starting point of the Ukraine war.Related...Russia Just Admitted Exactly What Everyone – But Trump – Already Knew About Putin's Ukraine PlansTrump Makes Rare Admission About Recent Russia-Ukraine Talks With PutinEuropean Leader Shares A Very Alarming Take On What Trump Really Means To Russia'My Heart Is Just Breaking': Ukraine Mourns After Russia's Deadly Kyiv Strike Kills 15 People
