Richard Tice Snaps At Trevor Phillips As Presenter Pokes Holes In Reform's Immigration Policies

Richard Tice and Trevor Phillips on Sky NewsReform UK’s deputy Richard Tice snapped at Sky News’ Trevor Phillips this morning after the presenter probed the party’s plans to reduce small boat crossings across the Channel.Nigel Farage’s right-wing party has supported the anti-immigration protests which have been taking place outside asylum hotels throughout the summer.Reform also outlined plans to deport all small boat arrivals to the UK last week – only to U-turn hours later, admitting they would not deport women and children after all.Amid some confusion over Reform’s policies, Phillips tried to get some clarity on how far the party would go to support the removal of asylum seekers.Alluding to recent criminal activity within the demonstrations, he asked Tice: “Can you be clear with us that there is no encouragement from your party to the sort of person who wants to break into asylum hotels in masks and intimidate asylum seekers?”“Of course,” he said. “What a ridiculous suggestion, Trevor.”“It’s not a ridiculous suggestion,” the presenter replied, but Tice cut in: “It is a ridiculous suggestion. Frankly, Trevor, that is outrageous!”They continued to interrupt one another until the presenter said: “I wanted to give you an opportunity to say it’s ridiculous, that’s the point of this interview.”“Which is exactly what I’m saying,” Tice said, insisting Reform back legal, peaceful protest.Phillips then asked if Reform would advise the Royal Navy to sink the small boats if they didn’t turn back.Tice, the Reform UK MP for Boston and Skegness, replied: “I think you might be suffering from a little August sunstroke, Trevor!“Of course we’re not going to sink boats. Get a grip.”But Phillips asked why Reform plans to send the Royal Navy out to the English Channel if they get elected.Tice said it’s a deterrent alongside a wider deportation policy. But the presenter hit back: “This is very interesting. Most deterrents work because the deterrer does what he or she says they’re going to do. “If you put the Royal Navy out there, what are they, just interested observers?”Tice said that deterrent would work with their deportation plans, and “within weeks, the incentive to come here will finish”.Phillips then moved onto Reform’s plans to deport asylum seekers back to their countries of origin, and asked if there were any countries they would not arrange a deal with – such as Afghanistan, currently under the Taliban’s control. The MP said: “We will look to do a number of return deals with a variety of countries. Sometimes you have to do business with people you don’t like.”The Reform MP said they would derogate from international deals if they have to. After some more back and forth on Reform policies, Phillips then brought the interview to a close, saying: “You complain when we don’t take you seriously and now you complain when I ask you what you would do as a government.”"If you put the Royal Navy out there, are they just interested observers?"Richard Tice: "Yes."@TrevorPTweets pushes Reform's deputy leader on why they want the Navy to police small boat arrivals.https://t.co/MNiun87pEe📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube pic.twitter.com/gMq5xbQ0wy— Sky News (@SkyNews) August 31, 2025Related...Rylan Clark Responds To Backlash Over This Morning Immigration CommentsLabour Braces For A Tense Weekend As Anti-Immigration Protesters Plan To Demonstrate Outside Asylum HotelsYvette Cooper Delivers Brutal Commons Slapdown To Chris Philp Over The Tories' Immigration Failures
