The Bittersweet Reason Carrie's House Seems So Empty In And Just Like That

A rare touch of colour and personality in Carrie Bradshaw's West Village townhouse.The latest season of And Just Like That comes with many questions such as, “didn’t Lisa’s dad die already?” and, “has Carrie always been this mean to Miranda?”One query that I personally can’t seem to get past is how Carrie Bradshaw can live in such an empty, sad townhouse with her vast wealth and taste? It just seems so out of character for her. In fact, the only real stand she seems to have taken on the home is her right to wear heels indoors, much to the chagrin of her downstairs neighbour.Why are we watching our dazzling protagonist wander around this haunted home? Have the set designers forgotten all about her?Well, not quite.The reason why Carrie’s townhouse is empty Speaking to ELLE Decor, production designer Miguel Lopez-Castillo and set decorator Karin Wiesel Holmes revealed that they were tasked with creating a space designed to mirror Carrie’s internal state.“It was like a dollhouse that is too big,” said Lopez-Castillo “[Showrunner Michael Patrick King] wanted her to feel really small in the space.”If you’ve found yourself frustrated by her apparent inability to furnish the home beyond a questionable table, that is kind of the point, the designers said.
