Taylor Swift on stage in London last yearTaylor Swift has opened up about one of the most talked-about songs on her new album The Life Of A Showgirl.Coinciding with the arrival of her latest album, Taylor also put together a cinema event for fans, consisting of her The Fate Of Ophelia music video and lyric videos for every other song on the release, as well as brief introductions from her discussing the creation of on each of the tracks.One of the most divisive songs on The Life Of A Showgirl is Actually Romantic, a purported diss track aimed at fellow pop singer Charli XCX.Last year, Charli released Sympathy Is A Knife, a Brat album track on which she addressed how hanging out with Taylor when they were both dating members of The 1975 resurrected some of her past insecurities.While Sympathy Is A Knife was not derogatory or disparaging about Taylor, and the Grammy winner had been complimentary towards Charli about her Brat album, many pop fans were quick to point out that the lyrics to Actually Romantic appeared to be taking aim at the Brat singer.Charli XCX headlining on Glastonbury's Other Stage earlier this yearIn the video aired at cinemas over the weekend, Taylor said Actually Romantic was inspired by the discovery that “someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about”.“All of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea,” she claimed.“It’s presenting itself as them sort of resenting you, or having a problem with you, but you take that and just accept it as love, and you accept it as attention and affection.“How flattering that somebody has made you such a big part of their reality when you didn’t even think about this.
