Nigel Farage and former Conservative Member of the Senedd, Laura Anne Jones.A Tory politician who used a racist slur about Chinese people has defected to Reform UK.Laura Anne Jones, who is a member of the Welsh Senedd, was forced to apologise for her comments in a WhatsApp group chat.In an exchange about TikTok, a message from Jones said: “No c****y spies for me!”Jones, who held a number of frontbench roles for the Welsh Conservatives, last year said her comment was “unacceptable and I deeply regret using it”.“I sincerely apologise for any offence this has caused,” she added.Jones also had to apologise in 2021 for a Facebook post in which she said: “I would like to do a spot of Chav shooting.” She also said it was “a shame that isn’t legal”.Apologising for those comments, which she made in 2012, Jones said: “I apologise for this post that was made on my personal Facebook page nearly 10 years ago.“I do not condone the use of violence in any form, and my flippant use of language was unacceptable and inappropriate, which I deeply regret.“They do not represent me, or my views, and I’m very sorry for any offence I have caused.”Appearing alongside Reform leader Nigel Farage at a press conference on Tuesday, Jones said the Conservative Party “was unrecognisable to me” now.She said: “Reform is the only party that now represents decent hard-working people, with traditional, patriotic values.
