UK Accuses Vladimir Putin Of 'Delaying Tactics' As Peace Hopes Fade

(AP Photo/Julia Demaree Nikhinson)Downing Street has accused Russia of “dragging its feet and stalling peace talks” as hopes of a summit between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy fade.Keir Starmer’s official spokesman said the Russian president was using “delaying tactics” in order to prolong the war, which began three-and-a-half years ago.Donald Trump had hoped to broker a meeting between Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart in the wake of his summit with the Russian leader two weeks ago.However, there is still no prospect of talks, while Russia continues to bombard Ukraine with drone and missile attacks.Asked about the impasse on Tuesday, Starmer’s spokesman said: “Russia cannot be more blatant about dragging its feet and stalling the peace talks.“Ukraine’s long been clear it’s willing to enter into leader-level peace talks and we continue to see Russia and President Putin prevaricate with unrealistic asks and delaying tactics to ensure that these bilateral talks aren’t going ahead.“Frankly these tactics are disrespectful to President Trump’s peace efforts and are another example of Russia’s disregard for any sort of peace deal.”The US president had initially seemed confident that Putin and Zelenskyy would meet for talks, and even suggested he could join them for a trilateral summit.But no progress has been made since then, with Russia saying on Sunday that there “needs to be an agenda” before the two leaders can meet.Asked why Putin is reluctant to meet Zelenskyy, Trump said: “Because he doesn’t like him, he doesn’t like him... they don’t like each other, really.”The Russian president wants Ukraine to hand over the entirety of its eastern Donbas region, including territory it has failed to capture militarily.However, Zelenskyy has insisted that Ukraine’s constitution means it is impossible to simply hand over land to Russia in order to stop the war.Related...UK Security Expert Explains How Putin Has 'Really Lost Badly Already' In UkraineWhy Does Donald Trump Keep Choosing Vladimir Putin Over Ukraine?Putin Has Allegedly Laid Out His Demands For Ending The Ukraine War
