Ukrainian MP Nails How Trump Has Abandoned Her Country After Putin Summit Failure
Donald Trump speaks to Vladimir Putin after their joint news conference.A Ukrainian MP has said her country has been abandoned by the US after Donald Trump failed to strike a peace deal at his Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin.Kira Rudik said any hopes that the American president had a “hidden plan” to end the war had evaporated following the talks.Trump literally rolled out the red carpet for Putin, who started the war in February 2022 when he ordered the invasion of his eastern European neighbour. At a joint-press conference following their face-to-face talks in Anchorage, Trump admitted the pair had failed to reach an agreement, with Putin refusing to call a halt to his brutal bombing campaign.Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy will fly to Washington on Monday for talks with Trump at the White House. But appearing on Sky News on Saturday, Rudik said her country should abandon any hope of receiving American help to end the war.She said: “You can think that there was a plan behind [the summit], but we see that there is no result of this plan. And that is why the only hope we have right now is in our European partners.“European security is in Europe’s hands and now we have to stand very strong together.”In a post on X, she added: “At one point, we believed President Trump had a hidden plan – to strike putin hard and unexpectedly. But there is none. From now on, our hope lies with our European allies.”At one point, we believed President Trump had a hidden plan – to strike putin hard and unexpectedly. But there is none. The path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without him.”But international experts took a different view, insisting Putin had emerged stronger from the talks.Orysia Lutsevych, deputy director of the Russia and Eurasia programme and head of the Ukraine forum at the Chatham House think tank, said: “After six bilateral Trump-Putin phone calls, five trips of Trump’s envoy (Steve) Witkoff to Moscow, the Alaska summit, watched globally with so much anticipation and anxiety, failed to produce any tangible outcome to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine.“Russia has received a reward for its invasion. Trump called Russia a ‘great country’ and said there is strong mutual understanding between the two parties.“This represents a further fissure in the already shaky Transatlantic alliance, the rupture of which is a primary Russian aim.“The Alaska summit represents another step towards this goal.”Related...'Child Like Behaviour': Trump Mocked As He Falls For Putin's FlatteryTrump Treats War Criminal Dictator Putin Like Royalty – And Still Fails To Get CeasefireKey Putin Ally Trolls The West With His Choice Of Sweatshirt Ahead Of Trump Summit
