'Unserious And Irrelevant': Starmer Blasts Badenoch After She Accuses Him Of Dodging PMQs
Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch.Keir Starmer has branded Kemi Badenoch “unserious” and “irrelevant” after she accused him of dodging prime minister’s questions. The PM pointed out to the Tory leader that he was out of the country attending the G7 and Nato with other world leaders and so could not be in the Commons. The pair clashed as Starmer updated MPs on what was agreed at the two summits. At the Nato gathering, the 32 member states agreed to boost the amount they spend on defence and national security to 5% of gross domestic product (GDP) amid the threat from countries like Russia and Iran.He said: “The only way to respond to these issues is by being strong both at home and on the world stage, by pursuing a foreign policy that answers directly to the concerns of working people, and that is the approach I took to Nato and to the G7.”But Badenoch told him: “He has evaded prime minister’s questions for two weeks only to come back here to tell us what we already heard on the news.”A clearly-angry Starmer replied: “We live in more volatile times than many of us can remember, with conflicts in many parts of the world that are evolving in a very fast and dangerous way.“There’s never been a more important time to work with our allies and to be absolutely serious in our response. That response was unserious. Unserious.“To suggest at a time like this that the prime minister attending the G7 summit and the Nato summit is avoiding PMQs is unserious. “What happend at Nato yesterday was historic. It was very important at a time like this that Nato showed unity and strength, with a commitment to the future, not just to the past.“That took a huge amount of work with our allies over the last few days and weeks . We have been centrally involved in that, crafting the final outcome, and we were recognised as having done so.“I’m proud that we helped put that summit into the right place yesterday and the world emerged safer as a result. That was the unanimous view of 32 allies leaving Nato yesterday.“For the leader of the opposition to belittle it just shows how irrelevant she and the party opposite are becoming.”Related...Keir Starmer's Immigration Plan Shows UK Is 'In A Very Dark Place', Says Albanian PMKeir Starmer Hit By Fresh Blow As Labour Rebellion Against Welfare Cuts GrowsStarmer Insists He'll Lead Labour Into Next Election Amid Welfare Rebellion
