Virginia Giuffre's Family Reacts To Trump's Comments About The Late Epstein Accuser
Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who sued wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein over alleged sexual abuse and accused him and Ghislaine Maxwell of pressuring her into sexual trysts with other powerful men, speaks during a news conference outside a Manhattan court in New York, Aug. 27, 2019.The family of Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most prominent accusers, on Wednesday said it was “shocking” to hear Donald Trump’s recent comments invoking their sister, while urging the president against pardoning the disgraced financier’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.Earlier this week, Trump was asked whether Giuffre was one of the people Epstein “stole” from the now-president’s Mar-a-Lago club.“I don’t know,” Trump replied. “I think she worked at the spa. I think so. I think that was one of the people. He stole her. And by the way that she had no complaints about us, as you know. None whatsoever.”In response, Giuffre’s family said “it was shocking to hear President Trump invoke our sister and say that he was aware that Virginia had been ‘stolen’ from Mar-a-Lago,” in a statement reported by multiple newsoutlets.“It makes us ask if he was aware of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal actions, especially given his statement two years later that his good friend Jeffrey ‘likes women on the younger side ... no doubt about it.’ We and the public are asking for answers; survivors deserve this,” the statement continues.Giuffre died by suicide in April at her farm in Western Australia at age 41, her family announced at the time.As a teenager, Giuffre worked as a locker room attendant at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort where she met Maxwell in 2000. The British socialite offered her a job as a masseuse to Epstein, which allegedly kicked off years of sex trafficking and abuse. Giuffre sued Maxwell for defamation in 2015 after she called her a “liar” but the case was settled two years later.Maxwell is now serving a 20-year sentence after she was convicted of helping Epstein sexually abuse minors.Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche sat down with Maxwell last week as part of Trump’s efforts to quell right-wing outrage over his administration’s refusal this month to release the government’s files on the Epstein case. This week, Maxwell’s attorney told the House Oversight Committee, which has ordered a subpoena for Maxwell, that his client would only answer lawmakers’ questions if she gets them in writing first and is also granted immunity from further prosecution. The committee has said it won’t be meeting her request for immunity. But Trump has not ruled out pardoning Maxwell, telling reporters: “Well, I’m allowed to give her a pardon, but I — nobody’s approached me with it. Nobody’s asked me about it. It’s in the news about that, that aspect of it, but right now, it would be inappropriate to talk about it.”Giuffre’s family urged Trump against doing so, noting that Maxwell is untrustworthy.“If our sister could speak today, she would be most angered by the fact that the government is listening to a known perjurer,” their statement reads. “A woman who repeatedly lied under oath and will continue to do so as long as it benefits her position.”Giving Maxwell any leniency would “go down in history as being one of the highest travesties of justice.”“The government and the President should never consider giving Ghislaine Maxwell any leniency,” Giuffre’s family added.Related...Trump Implies Epstein Poached Virginia Giuffre From Mar-A-Lago SpaAll The Questions We Still Have About Virginia Giuffre's Civil Case Against Prince AndrewHow Has Prince Andrew Just Responded To The Civil Case Against Him?
