Wes Streeting Accuses Nigel Farage Of Planning To Deport NHS Staff In Immigration Crackdown

Health secretary Wes Streeting.Wes Streeting has accused Nigel Farage of planning to deport NHS workers if he becomes prime minister.The health secretary hit out at as he called on militant doctors’ leaders to “pick a side” between Reform UK and Labour.Farage announced last week that a Reform government would scrap the “indefinite leave to remain status” given to immigrants allowing them to live and work in the UK.Instead, they would need to meet strict new criteria, including earning a minimum amount, or face being deported, regardless of how long they have been in Britain.Speaking to the Sky News Electoral Dysfunction podcast at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, Streeting addressed doctors’ union the British Medical Association, who are threatening strike action over plans to make it easier for patients to book appointments online.He said: “What I’ve said to the BMA is the NHS is hanging by a thread, don’t pull it. It wouldn’t be in the interests of doctors, the BMA’s members.“There isn’t a more pro-doctor, pro-NHS government waiting in the wings. What there is is Nigel Farage, a man who would introduce, by his own admission, an insurance-based system, who would check your pockets before your pulse.”The cabinet minister added: “The BMA should really think about this in terms of their members, because I think about it in terms of my friends and my neighbours.“The idea that we would have a government that would say to doctors, nurses, care workers ‘we don’t want you here, you must go home because you earn less than £60,000’, breaking up families, shooting ourselves in the foot while we’re at it.“Farage says go home, the Labour Party says you are home, and with us this will always be your home.
